About Munich

Nobody likes to harp on about the stereotypes attached to a city when describing it, but it's hard not to when talking about Munich. The Bavarian capital is birthplace of the beer hall where men and women decked in lederhosen line larger than life beers in front of thirsty tourists to the sound of traditional German 'oompah' bands. But there is a lot more to the city than that. Munich gets increasingly cosmopolitan every year and it has one of the best selections of museums in Germany. Munich

Wonderful city. Try to go when its warm so you can enjoy the beer gardens. A lot to do and see, and absolutely wonderful beer by the liter.

  • Insider tip:Although the view is great from the tower of the cathedral near Marianplatz, a similar and free view can be attained by walking to the top of the hill at the Olympic park. Favorite beer gardens were the one in the Olympic park near the high hill with tons of space to just lay in the grass and chill, and the one at the Chinese pagoda in/near the English Gardens.
