City Guide Auckland, New Zealand

Visiting Auckland

Enjoying a spectacular location between Waitemata and Manukau Harbours, and surrounded by and built on fifty extinct volcanoes, Auckland is New Zealand's largest city and the gateway to the country's North Island. It boasts a neat and compact city centre which doesn't require too much leg-stretching when checking out its sights, restaurants and bars. It is also home to some of the country's most cosmopolitan neighbourhoods.

Bigger city in NZ but coming from London I wasn't too impress

It's a very young city, just 175yo, so it's not fair to compare with other very much older big cities in the world.. it's nice, but don't spend here more than 2/3 days if your trip in NZ is one month long as mine was

Really nice city. Nice shopping area and when you want to escape the crowded city, definitely visit Devonport. i stayed mostly in the CBD but there is a park real close where you can enjoy a pick-nick or read a book.

Insider Tip:Visit Devonport to escape the city for a day. Go to Staples to eat together but order at different restaurants. Go to the harbor to have a nice view of the city skyline.

    So much to offer

A lot of people get to the CBD and think that that is all that exists of this city, but its not. If you can get a car or even a bus out to the fringes of this huge region you will be blessed with beautiful beaches and huge ranges from which to explore. Don't just confine yourself to the city. The city is packed full of amazing places to go and eat for a bargain and there are lots of good places to drink down by the harbour and up on K Road.

Insider Tip:Eating on a budget? Go to K Road and choose from many cheap eateries - particularly Likewise Merge Cafe where all proceeds go to the homeless and you can get a meal for $4

    it was great!

I happen to really like auckland. would definitely recommend checking out the other islands like waiheke and rangitoto definitely sign up for the tours of those islands. i thought the city was also rather pretty at night, and the amount of walking i did in the city made me end up losing weight (despite living off of junk food during my entire stay in nz) hahaha

Insider Tip:for great nightlife, go to cassette 9!
