Things To See in Bled, Slovenia

From a castle on a hill to a plethora of churches to an extensive assortment of activities, Bled is full of things to see and do.

Some of the most popular attractions in the town include Bled Castle and the Church of the Assumption on the island of Lake Bled. In order to take in the stunning beauty of the lake in comfort, a trip on the tourist train could be a good idea.

For those who want a more active holiday, Bled offers a whole host of opportunities. Its proximity to Lake Bled, the Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park affords visitors the chance to hike, cycle and swim.

Other activities you can partake in during your stay include golf, gliding, alpine climbing, canoeing and horse riding. Winter sports like skiing and skating are also popular here.

  • Bled Castle

    Located up on a high cliff overlooking the town, Bled Castle is one of Slovenia’s oldest castles. It’s also one of Bled’s most popular attractions. One of the most interesting buildings here is the upper courtyard chapel, which dates back to the 16th century and houses a selection of impressive frescoes. The castle interior operates as a museum today. As well as its broad collection of artefacts, the castle also provides stunning views of the lake.

  • The Church of the Assumption on the Island

    , Bled, Slovenia

    This Baroque church is a very popular spot with visitors. Its current look dates back to the 17th century; however, there are records of a church at this location as far back as 1142. The church’s alter has gold plated carvings, and the side alters are also richly decorated. There’s a bell tower too, which has three bells.

  • Tourist Train

    For breathtaking views of Lake Bled and the surrounding countryside, the Tourist Train is a great option. Running every 45 minutes each day that the weather permits, it follows the track all around the lake.

  • Vintgar Gorge

    4km from Bled, Bled, Slovenia

    This impressive gorge is 1,600 metres long and 150 metres high. With stunning views and a choice of scenic walks, it is the most popular attraction close to Bled.

    Open daily from mid-April to October, 8am-8pm.
