Thanks to its enchanting squares, medieval buildings and cobweb of canals, Bruges is like something out of a fairytale. Unsurprisingly, it is Belgium’s most popular tourist destination.
Dating back to the 1st century, it is one of Europe’s best preserved medieval cities, although many of its buildings have been rebuilt over the years so the architecture isn’t as old you may initially think. But its two main squares, Markt and Burg, are amazingly kept.
As you walk around its streets, dodging fellow tourists and crossing canal bridges, you will soon notice the sound trotting horses drown out your chit-chat. It is then that you will feel like you have stepped back in time.
