Eating Out in Cancun, Mexico

From traditional cooking to the finest in international cuisine, Cancun has a lot to offer diners.

The Hotel Zone boasts a huge selection of different restaurants, with Bulevar Kukulkan home to many of these. For something a little more authentically Mexican, check out the downtown area on the mainland.

Traditional cuisine from the Yucatecan area has gained a reputation as some of the finest in all of Mexico. A combination of Mayan and European ingredients, this type of cooking includes dishes like ‘poc chuc’, which is made from marinated, barbecue-style pork.

Considering its costal location, Cancun also offers an incredible selection of seafood. You’ll find many seafood restaurants scattered around the city.

International foods are also on the menu in Cancun, with Italian and Thai cuisine particularly well-represented. You’ll also find many American chain restaurants here. These include TGI Fridays, Hard Rock Café, Tony Roma’s and more.

  • Labná

    Margaritas 29, Cancun, Mexico

    Traditional cuisine from the Yucatecan area is on the menu here. Some of the dishes offered include a marinated, barbecue-style pork dish called ‘poc chuc’. A sampler meal is available. To go with your meal, there’s the ‘agua de chaya’, which is a traditional sweetened water.

    Serving a varied menu filled with vegetarian and Mexican dishes, this restaurant uses fresh and natural ingredients. Here you also can try a ‘licuado’, which is a Mexican fresh-fruit drink that resembles a smoothie.

    Mexican food served in a very lively atmosphere, with mariachi and marimba music every night.

  • El Tacolote

    Popular with Mexicans and offering a wide range of good-value tacos and local drinks.

  • Russian Terem

    Calle Margaritas #9, Cancun, Mexico

    It is the only Russian restaurant in Cancun. Offers a variety of the most traditional Russian dishes (beef, chicken, salads, soups, desserts). The elegant decor, fine service and traditional folk music create an uniquely Russian atmosphere.

    Open daily from 1pm to 11pm.

  • Pizza Rolandi

    Cobá 12, Cancun, Mexico

    This casual restaurant serves a huge range of Italian dishes. The menu includes spaghetti, lasagne, calzone, and around 24 different types of wood-oven pizzas.

  • Thai

    La Isla Shopping Village, Local B-4, Cancun, Mexico

    Here you eat in an individual ‘palapas’ over the lagoon. These are separate areas with their own couch and tables. Traditional Thai favourites such as chicken satay and shrimp curry are all offered here. The restaurant also has a bar area, where a live DJ plays each weekend.

  • Iguana Wana

    Plaza Caracol, Cancun, Mexico

    Iguana Wana is a contemporary Mexican restaurant, cafe and bar with live entertainment, offering a wide range of good-value Mexican dishes such as salads, seafood or "especialidades de la casa" (Iguana Wanas specialities).

    Open daily from 7pm to midnight.
