Consisting of five suburbs, this town four hours drive north of Brisbane is one of Queensland’s largest. Its two major draw cards are Fraser Island (the majority of ferries heading for Fraser depart from here) and whale watching. Over 3000 humpback whales enter the waters around Hervey Bay each year. If you are doing neither, it is still a nice town to relax for a couple of days.
Found directly across from Melbourne's best-known landmark Flinders Street Station, Federation Square (which is better known as 'Fed Square') is a melting pot of culture. Here you can visit attractions such as the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and the National Gallery of Victocia (NGV). Good to stay for the night before and after fraser. nice small town with cheap meals and a nice beach to chill out on. if ur inclined to do a skydive whilst in oz do it here, u can see out to fraser island, the view is stunning
Hervery bay is a great wee town...probably do-able in a day! Its really quiet despite all the backpackers using it as a base for Fraser Island! The beach is beautiful. Wouldn't want to stay for too long with limited time in Oz, but worth stopping over
Hervey Bay is not really much too do but it's ok... but you have too go there to see Fraser Island!
Hervey Bay, pronounced HARvey Bay is a quiet sleepy place with a nice beach and harbour, but not too much going on. For most people it is a stop off for visits to Fraser Island and it is the place to book a tour.
The sea front is really pretty all the way along. I never found the city centre - like with churches halls and museums -but wasn't there long enough perhaps.
Insider Tip:Hostel accomodation is very good.
