About Jeffreys Bay

Jeffrey’s Bay, or J-bay as it’s known by the locals, is a surfer’s paradise in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. This seaside town is about an hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth and is home to a population of around 25,000 people.

Large numbers of people visit Jeffrey’s Bay each year to take advantage of the long stretches of sandy beaches, excellent surf spots and plenty more. Dolphin Beach is the name of J-bay’s Blue Flag beach, and if you’re lucky (and up early enough) you might be able to spot some of these aquatic animals from the beach. Each year the town hosts the Billabong Pro surfing competition, which sees many of the world’s top surfers competing. This event is held at Supertubes, one of the best surf spots in the country.

If you’re more interested in exercising your wallet than yourself, you’ll be more than happy to discover that J-bay is a veritable mecca for cut-price factory shops, specifically of the surf clothing variety. Billabong, Quicksilver and Rip Curl are just some of the top brands you’ll find here.

After you’ve surfed, shopped and seen the sights, you’ll have plenty of options available in the evening. One of the best ways to sample the town’s vibe is to enjoy a laid-back meal and a couple of cocktails at one of the many eateries along the town’s main drag.
