Eating Out in Montreal, Canada

Montreal Eating Out

Food is hugely important in Montreal’s social scene, and as a result the city boasts an amazing collection of restaurants, cafés and more. Not just confined to the downtown area, these eateries can be found throughout the city’s diverse neighbourhoods.

Plateau Mont Royal, which is one of the best examples of a real Montreal neighbourhood, is home to some great spots for lunch or dinner. Head to La Banquise on rue Rachel Est and you’ll be treated to huge portions of mouth-watering poutine at incredibly reasonable prices. For those looking for something sweet, try out Juliette et Chocolate in the Quartier Latin. You won’t be disappointed with their huge selection of crêpes, sundaes, hot chocolate, milkshakes and more.

If you’re the kind of person who likes to try local specialities when visiting a specific city, you’re in for a real treat in Montreal. As well as offering tasty Montreal-style bagels and delicious poutine, a huge number of the city’s eateries also offer ‘smoked meat sandwiches’, a real Montreal favourite. These filling sandwiches are made from cured, spiced and smoked beef, which is usually served up on rye bread with mustard and accompanied by coleslaw and pickles. We really recommend these big bites, so why not give one a go and see for yourself why they're so popular.
