For a small town, Plettenberg Bay boasts a rather large number of first-rate restaurants serving up local favourites, international cuisine, fresh seafood and much more.

Most of these eateries are to be found along Plett’s Main Street. You’ll see places like LM, a well-loved spot that serves up Portuguese and Mozambican dishes along with a great selection of seafood. If you’re in the mood for pizza, check out long-running Cranzgots. Kitchen Café also serves up great pizza alongside a wide variety of contemporary pasta dishes like the one picture here, plus lots more.

Down by Central Beach, you’ll come across another of Plett’s seafood specialists in the form of Moby Dick’s. Serving a lip-smacking array of locally caught fish and shellfish, this restaurant also offers breakfasts, steaks, burgers and more.

A little bit more informal, the Pie Shop on Church Street serves up some of the most delicious savoury pies you’ll find anywhere. For a quick meal at a very reasonable price, you really can’t do better.

Another great spot to check out for breakfast, lunch or dinner is the Surf Café at the Beacon Isle Centre. All the dishes here are inspired by surf spots throughout the world so you’ll find everything from curry to Mexican dishes on the very affordable menu.

So whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast, a quick snack or a relaxed evening meal, you won’t be short of choice in Plett.

Boerewors on the braai-becue

You can't leave South Africa without having at least one braai, which is the national version of a barbecue. With braai areas all around town, including up on the Robberg Peninsula, Plett is the perfect spot to indulge in this tradition. You'll tend to see boerewors (a spiral sausage), chicken kebabs, steak, corn and plenty more cooking on a typical braai.

• Pie Shop

  Small and cosy, the Pie Shop serves up a wide variety of incredibly satisfying savoury pies. Fillings include sweet and sour chicken, lamb and mint, feta and spinach, pepper steak, and plenty more. The delicious pies plus really reasonable prices should definitely make this place a mandatory stop during your stay in Plett.

• Ice Palazzo

  Shop 13, The Lookout Centre, Plettenberg Bay, South Africa

  It can get really hot here in Plettenberg Bay but never fear as the perfect solution is close at hand. Just head to the Ice Palazzo to sample some of the 20 mouth-watering flavours of ice-cream made on the premises. The waffles and milkshakes are also particularly tasty.

• Granzgot’s Pizzeria

  9 Main Road, Plettenberg Bay, South Africa

  A firm favourite with locals and visitors, this long-running pizzeria has been in operation since the 70s. Unsurprisingly, pizzas are the speciality here but you’ll also find seafood, spare ribs and more on the menu. Prices are reasonable and great value lunch specials are offered each day.

• Moby Dick’s

  Hopwood Road, Central Beach, Plettenberg Bay, South Africa

  Boasting a great view out over Central Beach, Moby Dick’s is a must for anyone with a fondness for fish. The menu is jam packed with oceanic offerings including prawns, mussels, calamari, line caught fish and more. Those with a big appetite will definitely appreciate the seafood platters, while a number of non-fish dishes including steak, pork and chicken are also available.
