Riga’s vibrant nightlife is one of the city’s main draws. Here people party the night (and day) away at a large number of bars and clubs.
In and around Elizabetes Street, you’ll find a number of bars including the popular Skyline Bar. Located in the 26th floor of the REval Hotel Latvija, it offers stunning views of the city.
Old Town also offers a large number of venues. Some bars to check out include Cuba Café and Bon Vivant. Don’t forget to check out Mad House on Kalku in the city centre, famed for its unique kitschy interior.
If you’re looking for something a bit more culturally inclined, Riga can definitely provide. Check out a performance of the Latvian National Opera or head to see an arty, independent film at the Kino Riga.
Whatever kind of night out you’re in search of, you’ll find something that takes your fancy in Riga.
Elizabetes 61, Riga, Latvia
Before you hit the theatres inside for a movie, make sure to check out the amazing art work outside the building. Instead of the standard movie posters, here you’ll see hand-painted versions of these ads. Inside, the classy décor matches the arty and indie movies shown, while the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.
Kaļķu 11, Riga, Latvia
Kitschy fun is the name of the game in this, well, mad house. Well-named, it’s an eclectic mix of alcoves and areas, all with a different look. The booths to the left as you walk in are reminiscent of rooms, and one has a really cool faux-window complete with drapes and a cityscape just outside. Over on the other side of the substantial bar island you can chill out at one of the many table with a drink. There’s a dance floor down the back and the place can get pretty packed with people shaking a leg to the dance tunes pumped out throughout the bar.
Open Sun-Thurs 9am-4am, Fri-Sat 9am-6am.

Kalēju 52, Old Town, Riga, Latvia
Walking in the door to hear rock music playing, is a pretty nice change from many of the dance music friendly bars around the city. Comfortable and laid-back, this place takes its name from a slight Bond obsession, and prints of the various Bonds adorn the walls beside other British and spy paraphernalia. The staff is friendly and the drinks are cheap.
Open Mon-Thurs 5pm-1am, Fri-Sat 5pm-4am, closed Sun; WiFi available.
Jauniela 15, Old Town, Riga, Latvia
Soak up the boho atmosphere of this cool café bar while sipping on a cocktail or a beer from the ample drinks menu. Popular with a youngish crowd, this bar lives up to its name with lots of Cuban bits and pieces displayed throughout, as well as lively Cuban music cranked up on the bar’s impressive sound system.
Open Sun-Thurs 3pm-2am, Fri-Sat 3pm-5am; WiFi available.
Mārstaļu 8, Old Town, Riga, Latvia
This Belgian bar stretches back quite a ways, and is a lot bigger than it first appears on entering. As a result, you should have no trouble finding a place to sit and enjoy one of the huge glasses of beer offered here. There’s a huge variety of different types to try if you’re up for it.
Open Mon-Sun 11am-1am.
