Stay for the day but head on to Taupo

This town is over-catered for tourists. There are some good things to do such as the Maori cultural show and the Polynesian Spa (although a very strange massage under a shower is not something I would do again). By all accounts Taupo has more to offer so I'd give Rotorua a pass.

    Nice place, limited transport options

Rotorua is a nice enough place. We enjoyed mountain biking in the forest out of town which you can reach through a combination of bus and walking. We were disappointed to find that there is no public transport further afield, to some of the nearby lakes for example. As such doing trips with a tour company or hiring a car are your best options if you want to see the countryside outside of town. Obviously both these options will cost you! The i-site in the centre of town has lots of good info.

Insider Tip:Mini golf behind the museum was good fun!

You probably need a few weeks in this town to get used to the smell of rotten eggs. The town was busy and has a large i-site and a lot of souvenir shops.

Insider Tip:If you want to see a geyser for free, go to the parking next to the SilverOaks Hotel, as you can take a glimpse of one from there.

The city is so nice with lots to do and see but sadly stinks like hell because of the geothermal area.

    Insider Tip:Mitai-Maori-Village

Rotorua is a beautiful (smelly tho) nice place with lots of hotsrings and vulcanic areas. Go to mountainbiking and visit to the maorivillages.

Insider Tip:The Puia, geysirs are too overpriced.
