As the town of Siem Reap is so popular with tourists there is a wide range of restaurants. They cater for all types with some specialising in local cuisine while others tend to have more western style food on their menus.
The best place in town for eating is around the Old Market Area which is known locally as ‘Psar Chaa’. Here you can find a wide range of restaurants to choose from. Not far from the market area is the riverside where you can find more restaurants and cafés. And if your budget is really tight you can try out food from one of the numerous street stalls.
Cambodian food is very similar to cuisine in its neighbouring South-East Asian countries with rice featuring in nearly everything. Other ingredients such as lemongrass and coconut are also evident. Some local specialities include Cambogee Beef which is marinated beef thread onto skewers, Cambodian Sweet Soup which contains pork, eggs, soy sauce and bamboo shoots and Aromatic Black Tiger Shrimp.
