Singaporean’s favourite entertainment past time is eating out and shopping. Contrary to popular opinion prices in shops in Singapore are not rock bottom, although good bargains can be found throughout the city. However if you are in the city during the Great Singapore Sale (usually July and August) you will discover some amazing bargains. Nightlife in Singapore is booming, there are a huge number of new and sophisticated pubs, discos and clubs springing up throughout the city. Cover charges into clubs and discos are normally between $15-$25 which should include the first drink. A glass of beer should cost around $8, unless during happy hour which is normally between 5-8pm. Arts and culture are also popular in this island state. Keep an eye out for local productions in the numerous theatres. There is also a biannual Festival of Arts, which attracts world-class attention and spans over two months normally between June and August, the next festival will be held in 2002.

Birthplace of the 'Singapore Sling', no trip to Singapore is complete without sipping on one of the famous cocktails in 'The Long Bar'. There's live music on most nights, but we're not sure which is more fun - dancing the night away or throwing monkey-nut shells on the floor...it's the only place in Singapore where you're allowed litter!
