In the ten years since the war has ended in Croatia, this Eastern European state really has become an entirely new country. In Dubrovnik, the pearl of the Dalmatian Coast, some scars are still evident. These are mainly on the pedestrianised roads in the city’s fortressed old town where mini-potholes remind you when walking around of the troubles which occurred here between 1991 and 1992, and also the new tiles which adorn many of the roofs which were destroyed during the war.
