In the past, Norway has been one of Europe’s tamer countries when it came to going out. Apart from large cities, getting alcohol wasn’t as straight forward as in other Scandinavian cities. Some towns monitored the alcohol which was sold and in a selection of towns around the country you could find it particularly difficult to buy alcohol.
While some towns still monitor the alcohol sold, these days it is far easier to enjoy yourself in Norway. A complete liberalisation with regard to liquor licenses and opening hours means that nightlife in Norway has really taken off in recent years. All the major towns and cities have an ample selection of pubs and clubs to keep you entertained.
If culture is your thing, most large cities (especially Oslo) have a selection of theatres which stage all types of performing arts. Norway also has a travelling theatre which visits towns and cities that don’t have their own drama companies.
