The Taiwanese can be proud of their cuisine as it is a major drawcard for tourists – in 2001 a poll carried out by the Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau discovered that 58% of visitors to the island that year said the number one reason they decided to go was cuisine.
In major cities such as Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung there are an abundance of restaurants to choose from, ranging from traditional restaurants to fast food joints. And like all Asian countries, stalls are a good place to grab a quick bite to eat for next to nothing.
Taiwan food is basically Chinese food. So if you want to try some local delicacies, if you have ever sampled Chinese gastronomy you have already eaten Taiwanese food. This is due to the huge amount of Chinese people living on the island.
