The Taiwanese enjoy going out. Taipei, in particular, is extremely lively at night. Other cities such as Kaohsiung, Taichung and Tainan are also known for their vibrant nightlife. If you find yourself in more rural parts of the country your social life may be limited!
There are various types of bars to choose from in more built up parts of Taiwan. These range from usual westernised bars and clubs, to more unique places such as KTV bars (Karaoke bars) and exclusive ‘bottle clubs’ where members buy a stock of bottles and leave them on their private shelves until they are all finished!
When you want to take things easy once darkness falls, a trip to the cinema is one of the best options available. The Taiwanese are one of the largest cinema goers on the planet and in most of the larger towns and cities you should find a theatre showing English-speaking films.
