We really enjoyed our stay at the Alesund Hotel. The man a the reception was extremely kind and helpful and helped us to organize our trip around Alesund to visit a fjord. We also enjoyed the breakfast, that was huge, fresh and very good. We also enjoyed the free internet access via real computers (compared with many hotels that offer wi-fi access only). The only negative point we would point out is that the common kitchen facilities were very dirty. We really enjoyed our stay at the Alesund Hotel. Much better than I expected after having read reviews. The location is great and the shower cubicle furthest from the door does have hooks although it is small and my stuff got a little bit wet. The dorm although big wasn't full but I still got moaned at by my dorm mates for putting the light on at 22:45 on a Saturday nite as the room was pitch black and the small lights weren't connected- I moaned back as I didn't think it was very late and it was me that had the early bus!!!Much better than I expected after having read reviews. I slept in the dormitory and a somebody STOLE MY COAT!!! UNBELIEVABLE! There are no lockers at all. Showers were quite annoying, once that you've got nothing to hang up your clothes. besides being a shelter with a bed in close proximity to the center, nothing else is going for this place. morning staff could care less, the girl on the counter though was nicer. Atmosphere was lackluster and bleak. I think they close at noon since I wanted to stay til 1 to use the internet but I was told they were closing at 12 noon. so I tapped the wireless from the curb. Pleasant location - at the base of the hill with a lookout (the one where all the photos are taken) - about 5 minutes walk from the bus stop. Staff informative and helpful. Good breakfast. Dining and shower areas clean, dorms average. Could benefit from lockers.
