Even if there is not a lot to do in Nagano, that is a very nice guesthouse. I found an answer to every question I had, had great recommandations for food, had great time with the other guests in the common room. I thought the bed was comfortable also in that «traditionnal» house. I would fo there again for sure... Very clean also.

1166 Backpackers is perhaps the best hostel I've stayed at. It's got a great location, excellent atmosphere and extremely friendly service. Orie and Lin were very friendly and got everyone to talk together and have dinner. They were very helpful in giving information about the local area and it was a very unforgettable experience. I urge everyone to stay here if they visit Nagano. Otsukare samadeshita.

It was a bit hard to find this hostel because the sign isn't blatantly obvious, but a little old lady saw my backpack and told me where to go. The owner is very cute and friendly. She took us out for dinner and then we played games and laughed all night. The beds were comfortable and the hostel was clean.

The hostel and the girl who running it are really great. There is a big beautiful wooden table in the first floor where the guests can meet, eat and chat. But the very comfortable bed was really the best.

Really nice, homely and friendly hostel. Had everything you could want - comfortable beds, wifi, lockers, large common area, space for large bags in the room. Excellent. Would recommend!

I stayed there with my family and we had a really nice time! The house was very authentic, japanese style. There was a big and nice livingroom very confortable where we stayed with other guests talking and having fun. The hostel is run by a young lady. She is very kind and was like one more of the group, talking and eating with us. She also helped us giving good suggestions and information about the town. The best choice if you go to Nagano!

Absolutely lovely! The rooms were a bit cold since we arrived during winter but that is compensated with a heater in each room. The lady who runs the place is an absolute star and makes the place. She gave us directions to where we wanted to go and pointed out the best restaurants nearby and we got a private room instead of doorms free of charge since the room wasn't occupied. Awesome

This is one of the friendliest Hostels I've stayed at in Japan. The owner really tried to create a group atmosphere amongst all the guests and knew everything about the area we were staying in (including best places to eat etc) I highly recommend staying here!!

Like staying with a friend in a friend's house. The owner cooked us a typical Japanese meal and helped us out a lot.

This is a great little hostel. However, if you are going during winter, don't expect the heater to be really warm. It was okay in the community area but it was a bit too chilly in the room even with the heater on. Other than that, everything was great. Oh you only get two slices of bread for breakfast but there are apples and lollies which you can have without extra charges.

I had a very good stay at 1166. Orie was very helpful and definitely treats you like family. She took us to a nice restaurant and helped me organize my stuff after failing to visit the monkey park twice ;) Would've stayed longer but sadly it was fully booked T_T

Hands down the best hostel I have ever stayed at. A very traditional Japanese style home but felt like a home away from home. Orie the lady who runs the hostel by her self is so helpful and keeps the place spotless. The place is conveniently located from the JR line and really close to the Zenkoji Temple.

I travelled around Japan with my brother and our friend, and our stay at 1166 was one of the highlights of the trip. Ori keeps a clean and friendly backpackers that has a really homely feel. The huge table in the common area allowed for great interactions with other travellers. Ori is a great host and helped us find our next accomodation, as well as invited us back for a great sushi party at the backpackers. I highly recommend staying here.
