Staying at this hostel is great for doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. The staff advised us not to take the shuttle back to the car-park, but just to hitch-hike, at is saved us 30 dollars per person. The hostel itself has an interesting atmosphere, everyone is allowed to write, paint and stick things on the walls, so it is a colourful scenery. It did not bother us at all! If you are staying in a room next to the showers, you might have some sound from that, but it is not too troubling.

Great location for doing the Tongariro Crossing with genuine hippie vibes. Just don't believe them when they offer a "free shuttle" from town, it doesn't exist. Myself and several others had set up pickups that never happened. It's a short enough walk from the I-center but be prepared, especially if you're traveling with heavy bags.
