Venice Fish is great for a short backpacker-style stay – very conveniently located, close to the station and main attractions, next to a small canal and a church piazza. There's a lovely big living room with windows facing the street, yet it was very quiet at night. Dorms are clean, the staff was helpful and overall I'm very happy with my stay there.

I've been traveling throughout Europe for a month now, I've stayed in quite a few hostels. This place would have been great if it wasn't for the guy running the hostel. He was rude, unhelpful and generally offensive. The location was great, but the party went on in the hostel until past midnight, and it was pretty loud since all of the hostel dorms are right next to the common area. Breakfast wasn't good, they only had tea and no coffee, pre-wrapped croissants. Wouldn't stay again.

I had one of my best hostel experiences at A Venice Fish! The hostel itself has everything you need, as one might expect, but what separates this hostel from others is its unique location, atmosphere and character. If you are going to Venice, you MUST stay here to get the most out of your time there!

Staff was great, really helpful and knew a lot about the city. The hostel seems to attract a cool bunch of people, so it's easy to hang out in the common area and chat with the people there. Fun place, would stay again.

This is a very communal hostel. Big rooms with lots of people. But the staff is very respectful of the fact that people sleep, and close down the communal room at 12 and stress that people do sleep when traveling. The hostel is in an ideal locale, on a canal, and with a bunch of good restaurants and shops around. It is a good hostel to meet people, and everyone seems to be nice and the hostel is set up to make friends. For the price and location, it is worth it. A decently clean.

It's located on the island. I don't like the 10 am to 2 pm lockout, but I mean they need time to clean as much as possible. It was kind of cold.

A Venice Fish was great, I met so many people while staying there because they really promote a family atmosphere. My first night there it rained so the host made Sangria and we played cards all night. The second night was family movie night. Location is great! Puts you in central Venice and perfect for sightseeing. Personal security is perhaps a little lacking as you only get a key to the very front door and not even your own room and there are no lockers, but nothing was stolen.

Honestly, would not stay there again. It was charming, but not so great. My bed literally couldn't hold more than one person sitting on it. The shower water is never "hot" it only gets warm. It was an okay stay, but not for the price we had to pay.

Chris & Lewis are really very helpful guys! Shame there are no leaflets/brochures in the hostels to pass on to visitors. Location is the key advantage for this hostel. I would only recommend for 1-2 nights, I wouldn't stay here long term. It feels more like a stay over at a friends house.

The hostel is not very clean. Everything is expensive - They charge you Euro5 for luggage storage. no free city map. Breakfast is simpler than nothing

I don't have anything bad to say about the hostel. The staff was very easy to work with and the facilities were as advertised. My only recommendation would be to have 24 hour reception but I understand that it is difficult with a small staff. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Well, it was a decent hostel for the location and general expensiveness of the city. The atmosphere was very nice, lots of people from all over, chatty and altogether relaxed. I wasn't afraid to leave my things. One hugest drawback - NO NAMEPLATE - not many people read rusted banners wrapped around a window, you know. And as I realize it might be part of character, when you're running around in heavy rain with all your luggage drained in water, it's not a nice feeling to begin with.

I was dissatisfied with the lack of bathrooms and no hot water. We had to ask multiple times for toilet paper for our room and only one roll was given at a time for a room of 8 girls. Room was also cold and bright and too close to the common room so it was noisy. Door didn't lock either. Shower was mouldy.

This hostel lies beautifully by a canal, close to the city centre (or rather in the city centre) of Venice, and has a cosy common room with a television, some guitars and some sofas. The personnel was somewhat lacking in detail in the descriptions of places to go to and visit, but did their best to help out in general. The breakfast is not very impressive - a croissant with some tea and the showers are unfortunately quite cold. On the positive side is the cleanliness of the place.

Great location, very clean (they clean the whole place every morning) the staff was very friendly and there was coffee amd tea all day. The common area is very confortable to chill out watching a movie or playinc a guitar, and you get a key to get in any time in case you go out late.

Best hostel I've ever stayed in. It's more like a bed and breakfast. Amazing staff. I got in at midnight from Lisbon, and after letting me in the attendant could tell I was tired. He asked if I was hungry, I said I would be ok, but he went and made me pesto gnocchi and gave me a pint of fresh red wine (his favorite local pick). He refused to let me pay for any of it. They let you keep your bags there, and escort you to the train station if needed. Better than 5 star concierge, and big rooms.

Perfect location, right in the middle of the everything going on. Nice authentic Venice style apartment on the river with bridge and Gondola's right outside, stores along the street, food and grocery store just near by. 10 minute walk from the train station, 15 minute walk from the parking garages. Met and gathered with some other nice people in the common area but common area closes at midnight and no night life on the island.

I really enjoyed how social this place felt. Everyone sat around at night on the couches and tables and talked about their countries and stories. The location is not next to the best monuments, however it is next to the biggest grocery store that happens to be one of the only places open late.
