Spent a lot of time at the lobby having drinks during carnival, it was so much fun and the staff was very accommodating.

A&O are OK, but not really a backpackers hostel..more or less a hostel/cheap hotel hybrid. Good if you are looking for a clean/cheap place to stay a few days, but not if you are looking to meet other travelers. The location was decent, and everything was pretty clean. They do charge extra on arrival for sheets (3 Euro).

Our stay was short so this wallet friendly option worked well for us. The facilities and hygiene were good for what we paid and the hostel was in a fairly good location. Just one thing I didn't like was that we were almost pushed out of our rooms by house keeping, 15 minutes before check out. We were still packing and changing so we didn't appreciate the gentleman who decided to just barge in telling us he would give us 5 more minutes. Wifi in the rooms would have been nice.

We have stayed 3 nights in double bed private room. very clean, nice and good located. Just the bed and the sheets were poliester or sth, all the nights we sweated extremely. Beside, in general we are satisfied.

The A&O hostel is really good, I would say better than the one in Dusseldorf because it has a guest kitchen. It's very near the city centre (around 10 min walking) and located in a good place near supermarkets, restaurants, etc. I would definitely stay there again.

When we came in the room smelled very chemical and we had to leave the window open for half an hour to get rid of the smell. Staff was not very friendly. We had to pay for sheets that weren't completely clean. Beds definitely need a change in the near future! Matresses were not clean and full of dust. Positive side: good location, clean bathroom and toilet and nice company in our room

The day that we arrived the guy at the reception received us with bad manners, we booked a mixed dorm for 6 people but when we arrived they told us that they didn`t have that kind of dorms, so we have to sleep in a room of 8 people.

I Felt like the Broadway Musical Les Miserables-master of the house. We had to pay extra for the sheets, extra for the parking extra for the web and extra for the breakfast. "Charge 'em for the lice, extra for the mice Two percent for looking in the mirror twice Here a little slice, there a little cut Three percent for sleeping with the window shut When it comes to fixing prices There are a lot of tricks he knows ... The hostel do not have lockers in 8 shared rooms. The charge you for the sheets and for paying with credit card. It is a clean place and near to the city center.

The receptionist doubles as a bar tender, resulting in a long wait for drinks. Other than that I found the place acceptable…

The dorm was full of migrant workers. The rest of the hostel was full of creaming children. The dorm had 10 beds instead of the booked 8. All crammed together. Internet didnt work (but staff fixed it later) Then the keycard stopped working too. There is also no kitchen. I thought all hostels had one. Also the hostel has zero atmosphere.

First of all, after I asked something, the lady from reception was a little unpolite (very normal in Koln), as she spoke something in german to her friend and then both started to laugh.. the hostel is not bad, but i should be cheaper, the value for money is not fair..

More than half the lockers in one room i stayed in were broken and unable to be locked. Due the hostel being quite large it lacks any sort of personal touch but maybe this is unavoidable. Most things were in good condition like bathrooms, beds and common rooms but nothing is free, had to pay for breakfest, coffee, towels and linen and cant remember seeing a kitchen. Also too many old people!
