I stayed for 4 nights and had a perfect stay. The staff was friendly, courteous, and very helpful. The location is central Gion and is quite easy to find and navigate throughout the city from there. I highly recommend A-Yado Gion.

Lovely cheap hostel right in the middle of the Gion district. A helpful staff, decent beds, good common room and all the facilities you need, or rather that I needed.

Staff was incredibly friendly, nice and helpful. You get a bread in the morning, you can bye soups, noodles, drinks and sweets in the kitchen, hot water is provided, but there is no stove for cooking. The kitchen is the common room, and there are always people around to talk to. You can play Wii or watch movies. The female dorm was very small, hard to deal with big luggage, the mixed dorm is a better deal. Everything is clean, I really felt comfortable, highly recommended!!!

Thank you for good words in your comment above! Friendly, nice and helpful! They are really valuable words for us. The bread is slight, but It's very tasty. A local baker bakes them everyday to suave you. Sorry for lack of kitchen and lack of enough space to put your luggage. Our country, especially, this town is so small. Thank you for recommending our hostel! And thank you for the comment!!

Very comfy hostel with a nice lounge. Everything was perfectly clean. Best dormitory style hostel I have ever tried. Partial privacy is secured by drapes, which seperates each bunk bed from the other one.

Awesome hostel! Very cheap, great facilities and not far from the Shijo shopping center. The buses can get confusing though so watch out! There are multiple Gion stops so be sure to follow the directions and only take the number 12 bus. My friend and I spent two nights there and loved it. The staff are very nice and will help you plan your trip as well. You even get a free slice of bread for breakfast.

Thank you for your compliment! Right, the bus system is a little bit confusing. The number 12 goes to the noth west side of Kyoto. If you want to go toward that side, it's definitely useful!! Thank you for styaing with us and the comment!!

It was a great location with a helpful staff. Might have been lacking a bit on the social area, but you spend so much time just being out in the beautiful city of Kyoto that it shouldn't matter to much.

Owner Comment (Show)
Thank you for your comment. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay here. We have only small living room. We'd like the guest to be out to experience the beautiful Kyoto city as you said. When you have time to come back to Kyoto, please experience the beautiful Kyoto again!!

The directions to the location were a bit tricky just because I didn't understand the bus system in Japan/Kyoto (cost) but getting from the station to the hostel was easy except for that.

It in a very nice place to stay for the bagpackers. Located at one of the busiest places in Kyoto. The facilities are very good. You get free breads for the breakfast. The staff speaks good English and is very helpful.

Good hostel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It was a bit hard to find but the stay was good. It is within walking distance from some temples and shrines, as well as restaurants and public bus. I'd consider staying again.

This hostel is very well located if you want to hang out in the evenings (the buses in Kyoto stop around 22:00, so if you want to hit some bars, you\'ll probably want to stay near Gion) but a bit far from the train station (about 20-30min bus) , which makes it a bit less easy to explore the city. Very clean, and a helpful staff, but no cooking facilities.

This hostel is cool. Super clean. Good location and good socialising area. They give you free coffe and tea and also bread in the morning. Close to a beautiful area. I recommend. The beds are not the best but it is a hostel. Everything is super clean which I loved. Staff also amazing.

its good for the price we pay (around 25 usd), because Japan hotel is so expensive.. but maybe because i stayed in a dorm, i cant sleep well... but overall, its value for money.

Although slightly more expensive than other places near-by, I was very impressed by the standard at this hostel. Conveniently located, easy to find (which is hard to say for some of the competition) and immaculate throughout, I stayed in one of the capsule style dormitories. While relatively basic, there was ample storage for all my bags, an electric socket in each capsule, and one of the comfiest nights sleep I had in my whole trip to Japan. Would stay here again.

A-Yoda was very clean and the staff was super friendly. They let me borrow an iPhone charger for two days since I left mine back in Tokyo. I really liked that they had snacks and drinks for purchase in the common room. It made meeting other backpackers over a cheap beer very easy. My only complaint was my snoring coughing overweight French bunk-mate who slept in his underwear. What can you do, though? The location is perfect for hitting the Gion nightlife and very easy to get around the city.

An iPhone charger is really important, since we all the time use iPhone. We have to let electricity go into that! The common room is also important, since we cannot live without a good meeting! Sorry for another thing... Thank you for the comment!!
