As Hostel World did not make the ageism policy for this hostel clear on their site, I was able to make a booking. But refused a room because I was over 30! The staff were completely unhelpful and didn't seem to care that I had nowhere else to stay which I was very upset about as a single woman traveller.

What to say: It's listed with several names, google maps expected it in on another place, the bath-light didn't work in the morning (with no window and a dormitory means "Annoy the other with an open door" ) and the showers water-temperature changed from ice-cold (good) to really hot (not so good) within seconds... Positive: The beds are really big for domitories, the staff is friendly, it's clean and the bath is connected to the dorm-room (so no floor-hiking).

Like other comments note, this is far more a low-key motel than a hostel. No common area and nowhere to hang out. I was only using for a one night stopover before flying the next day, I'd say you wouldn't want to spend more than a night or two unless you group book a room. Front desk was helpful though and good location.

Location, location, location! And FREE parking downtown for those who are driving, that\'s a savings of $20 per night just with parking!

Excellent value for money option in perhaps one of the best locations in Portland. Really close t o the city center and most convention centers, to PSU and to the Waterfont Park. It's actually a Motel (not a Hostel in the conventional sense), quite basic, but okay. There is a fridge and microwave in the room in case you'd like to buy something for breakfast. Wi-fi works nicely. Staff was helpful whenever I needed something, but in many occasions there was no one in the front desk.

This is a super budget motel not a youth hostel. You get towels, soap and shampoo. My fridge was either broken or I didn't know how to turn it on and I didn't use the microwave. The towels and sheets were worn out. and the bed cover had holes in it but they seemed clean. I just needed a bed for the night and this did the work. The location is great and accessible by public transit.

This place actually has a completely different name than advertised here. It's actually called Downtown Value Inn or Downtown Motel. Not sure why they use different names, but it doesn't help cab drivers to find it. Rather boring and low-quality motel, although the price is low and the location is okay.

This was not set up as a hostel but more like a cheap motel. No coffee pot in room exasperated me since it really was a cheap motel. No community room or opportunity to meet up with other travelers. Staff nice and location perfect. Thats what made it bearable. But not a hostel.

Instructions to hostel were inconclusive. Take yellow line right to montgomery street after u get to city center. Great price for a basic hotel room.

AAE Portland Downtown was not very Hostel like, it was definitely more like a cheap hotel. So there was no common area to hang out in and meet other people on their travels. it was a great little hotel though. A great location and great staff.

This hostel is rather a hotel (four beds in a room). Good value for the price and the shower is inside the room, which is also nice. One drawback: Luggage storage costs $5 a day.

More than we expected for the money. Essentially, our room (three of booked a private room) was a hotel room with a fridge, tv and full bathroom. The area is a little dodgy after dark but we did not feel unsafe. I recommend this place!

The staff was generally unfriendly, the room was NOT clean at all and there was no hot water in the shower. All in all, the worst \'hostel\' I stayed at for a long time. Btw. it is not what I expect to be a hostel. It was more like a motel.

Grest location in downtown Portland. Good value hotel (private room for cheaper than the cost of 2 dorm beds in the Portland hostels). Staff friendly and helpful with good advice about the city.

Budget travelers who arrived in Portland on either Amtrak or Greyhound can use an easy (free) street car ride to/from the motel. The neighborhood is quite good around the motel adjacent to Portland State University. Safety is not an issue.
