Hostel World NEVER replied to my request for refund of deposit even though I sent email more than 24 hours. Instead, the hostel, itself, was contacted and refused to give their refund of whole night downpayment due to a 48 hour requirement. The process of cancellation and refund was NOT clear on the internet and the communications to HOSTEL WORLD is NON-functional.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Maids clean daily. Security is good, with a passcode locked door. Nice central location, two blocks from 8th and Mission, where you can take the Mini or Bart anywhere in town. Rooftop terrace isn't as advertised though. There is a six foot wall around the entire roof, so it'd hard to get a view.

Hidden fees at arrival, and unreliable staff (busy).

This hostel was great for what we needed. Our dorm room was comfortable and the staff were helpful. There is a nice kitchen/lounge area where you can prepare food and get free coffee/tea. The hostel is located right in the center of San Francisco, which is very convenient to get around, but it is not necessarily the nicest of areas. Still, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay, this hostel is good value for money.

The Hostel is in a critical area and it's not very safe. It sure is the cheapest around but there's no breakfast. It's very small, there's no place to hang out.

The hostel is clean, there is free beer and free breakfast (with low quality pancakes and oats). The neighborhood is definitely not one of the best. Recently they charge you to store your luggage after check-out.

What was provided was okay for the price. It wasn't spot clean, and I didn't expect it too be. However the sheets were dirty and stained which was really off putting and unacceptable.

I was charged an additional fee for "not checking in on time" although Hostelworld.com knew I was delayed because of snow storm and advised I can update the dates of my stay. I paid for a night stuck in an airport and was told "too bad", "should call us, not hostelworld" which is where I booked through and was give only that phone number..

Roof access is great. I met a lot of people from all over the world just hanging on the roof and kicking back for a beer.

The hostel was good. The streets around the area are a little bit scary at night, but which part of San Francisco isn't? Inside the hostel there was good people. My roommates were cool, and from other parts of the world, and i never had a problem by losing anything.

There was a miscommunication with the person I made which ended up in me paying for another night. The walls were paper thin and our room was freezing. I was half expecting our sheets to be dirty upon arrival. But you also get what you pay for. In a good area if you like design stores....

If you come one night it's raining, don't forget your umbrella, because there are a lot of leaks in the rooms and at the bed. And when you say that to the stuff, very unpleasant, they're very "surprised", but in the carpet, you can see that it isn't the first time that there are a leak. For cold days, don't forget your coat, because the windows don't close, and for resolving the problem, they only put a towel at the window. I usually go to guesthouses, but that it's UNRECOMMENDABLE.

Everything was good and we met amazing people there. They only need more bathrooms, they have only 3 for many rooms. Great location!
