My friends and I enjoyed the academy hostel very much. The location was excellent, the staff very friendly and the facilities were simple but clean and adequate. If possible they should install more chips to recharge the batteries of cameras and mobile phones. 4 adults Portugal

can't beat the location, probably the best of any hostel I've ever stayed. Staff is friendly and accomodating. This is a VERY quiet hostel. Wi-Fi worked and then didn't work at regular intervals, although they offer computers free of charge to use. Very large rooms, beds were average, bathrooms were very clean. They're quite serious about the 3 hour break to clean the hostel, I was not allowed in when I needed to retrieve my camera which was annoying. They have laundry on site.

The best hostel I've ever stayed. Everything is so advanced here, they even give everyone a portable bed lamp. Loved all the details and free snack at 6pm. The price worth it.

Academy Hostel is everything a hostel should be. Simple, clean accommodations that encourage you to get out of the room and explore the city, meeting people along the way!

I found it pretty ridiculous that no noise was allowed at all. We were continually "shushed" by the employees, even at earlier hours. Also, we were not allowed our friends in our room (who were also guests at Academy). Staff was a major buzzkill for travelers looking to meet new people and actually have conversations with them.

It was an excellent stay, as we expected from the comments we read before. As suggestions, we'd like to have had an extra security system to our room's door (card?) and reduced closure times (those for cleaning). We think that, since the rooms are not always cleaned, that could be done. This would further improve the hostel's rating. Also, we ran out of soap in the shower. ;)

Staff were really good and it was a surprise to see the owner looking in each day to see how things were going (i guess). The hostel is located centrally and within easy walking distance to every place that I was to visit and easy access to food outlets of all types. Breakfast was fresh and adequate.

Excellently located hostel. However - While some would call it "chic" it feels very sterile. The striclt minimal and generally sterile atmosphere can be seen even in the breakfast which whch uses single use plastic cutlery, plats cups etc. Calling it a "home away from home" would in that sense not be correct on to many unless you live in a hospital. It should also be noted that it is very expensive for what you are getting - and the price listed does not even include the city tax of 1Eur/night
