I found it pretty ridiculous that no noise was allowed at all. We were continually "shushed" by the employees, even at earlier hours. Also, we were not allowed our friends in our room (who were also guests at Academy). Staff was a major buzzkill for travelers looking to meet new people and actually have conversations with them.

It was an excellent stay, as we expected from the comments we read before. As suggestions, we'd like to have had an extra security system to our room's door (card?) and reduced closure times (those for cleaning). We think that, since the rooms are not always cleaned, that could be done. This would further improve the hostel's rating. Also, we ran out of soap in the shower. ;)

Excellently located hostel. However - While some would call it "chic" it feels very sterile. The striclt minimal and generally sterile atmosphere can be seen even in the breakfast which whch uses single use plastic cutlery, plats cups etc. Calling it a "home away from home" would in that sense not be correct on to many unless you live in a hospital. It should also be noted that it is very expensive for what you are getting - and the price listed does not even include the city tax of 1Eur/night

Owner Comment (Show)
You are offensive and unfair, first, you knew the price when you booked, so, if you thought it was expensive you could have booked another place, then it's written EVERYWHERE that the city tax is not included, and that this is common in ALL the Hostels. According to an European law,for having standard cups and cutlery you need special environments for the sterilization that we cannot have, especially in a XVI century building! And, please, don\'t forget you\'re getting breakfast for FREE

Super location, great feel, goes above and beyond in terms of providing daily appetizer + wine, very comfy beds, etc. Located on a side street just a block from the Duomo. Ran into an unwritten rule or two (can't be in the common area after midnight) but overall a full head and shoulders above a standard hostel.

Little and clean rooms, bathrooms an linen free of charge. The staff is very nice and It has a kitchen to cook and refrigerator to jeep your stuff. The rooms are nice and confortable with big bathrooms. If you want a quiet space and sleep this is the place! The location is great, just 5 min walk to fontana di trevi and near train station. Download Address in google maps before and you wont have any problem finding the hostel.

Theres no lock to the dorm rooms so you have to store your stuff in the lockers provided which suprised me but its really clean and the staff are lovely. The breakfast is basic but its free so you cant complain. Get up early though before the surly american high school exchange students eat all the good stuff and occupy all the tables being moody and refusing to talk to anyone....!

I know, sometimes, people in big groups tends to not socialize and this kills a bit the atmosphere, but this doesnt depends from the Hostel, fortunately we just have 2 or 3 a year. But why you complain about security?? first of all, for getting in the Hostel every guest should pass 3 doors protected by cameras, where they are identified.Second, we have 24hrs reception service with a guy standing all the night doing security, third we privide FREE personal lockers for every guest!!!! -Toto -

Lovely hostel located in a prime spot - Near Duomo. The staff were all very helpful and curteous. The rooms and bathroom were clean. The free breakfast and aperativo were generous as well. I will definitely stay here again if I'm back in Florence. The atmosphere was chilled out.

Yep, it's as good as they say. First, location: nothing like waking up to the wonderful BOOONNNGG of the Duomo, only a block away (and having the Academia only two minutes away, in the other direction). Second, the staff, always perky and helpful. Laundry facilities, nice setup for social-mixing, plus a solid euro-hostel Breakfast (croissant, jam, cereal etc). The Academy's on the top of my list for my next trip to Florence. Thanks!

Excelent bed, free snacks at afternoon, very clean facilities, and the best location you can find in Firenze: one block form the duomo, and two from Accademia. Definitely the best hostel visited in Italy.

Nothing bad to say.. Right in the center, close to all the spot you need to visit. Very helpful staffs. Very clean and well organized. Also has a locker with key. Nice bed.. the building itself has the history. Wifi is not working that well in the room. Overall, will definitely recommend any one to stay here when you visit Florence.

I enjoyed my stay at the Academy hostel. Contrary to a few reviews in the past, I did get to meet a lot of people over apertifs every evening. The facilities are quite impressive and so is the breakfast spread. The staff was very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Another positive aspect about this hostel is the location. It is conveniently placed between the Duomo and Academy Gallery. (closer to the Duomo and railway station) I will surely stay here during my next visit to Florence.
