It is a nice Party hostel, so if you want to Party, it is a good one. If not, it can get a bit loud. The room smelled a bit moldy, which is possibly the fault of other travellers staying, but I had the feeling nothing got cleaned. I do understand that the staff is there only temporarly, but the adive is not always very helpful.
Great location in Pelourino, and some of the best beds I've seen in a dorm. Spacious beds with curtains and personal lights, fans, and storage space. The owner, Francisco, and his staff, we're all really friendly and helpful. Was a good place to meet other travelers, and made my stay in Salvador a memorable one.
Great hostel!! The staff were so nice here and do everything they can to make you staff as enjoyable as possible. I would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone thinking of heading to Salvador.
Amazing hostel, feels like a second home after a few hours! The owner, Francisco is such a nice, genuine and helpful guy. Really good staff and the dorms are spacious. I highly recommend this place and will go back here for every future stay in Salvador.
Francisco foi increível, um rapaz muito legal. As meninhas extrangeiras que trabalhan ahi não poden falar nada de portugues. Muito ruim sim você está trabalhando em um pais onde a língua oficial não e inglés. Francisco is incredible. The other girls who work there don't ven speak portuguese. It is annoying for me as a spanish/portuguese speaker that people just assume because you travel you speak english. Luckily I do, but if you are going to work in a foreign country, learn the basic language
One of the most sociable, friendly, and wonderful hostels that I've stayed in. Free caipirinhas and fun events each evening! The owner, Francisco, is an awesome guy makes everyone feel welcome, taking us to local restaurants/bars and street parties/cultural events. The beds are spacious and comfortabl and come with curtains, outlets, lamps, etc.. The location is noisy at night but safe, with the police stationed a few meters away from our hostel.

It can be noticed the owner does the little extra for this hostel to be special! Really impressive! Everything is tidy, good beds with curtains (good mattresses and beds not sqeaking), functioning lockers, proper bedsheets and towels, ok breakfast. One night we had a 15 reais churrasco, that gave you a proper and varied meal in nice athomsphere. The owner also seems to treat the volunteers working there well which also contributes to a good atmosphere.
Great atmosphere and very nice location, i had a very good time at açaí hostel! Thanks a lot Francisco, unfortunately I never got to thank you in person! ;-)
Best hostel I have stayed at in South america ! Francisco has thought of everything, curtains in the dorm, Chargers in the lockers, free pasta, free caipirinha, basically everything that a backpacker desires in a dorm ! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the acai and Francisco and the staff were the reason behind this, they are like one big happy family who welcome you into their family as soon as you arrive !
Best beds iveive stayed in in a long time. Hostel was always clean as we're the bathrooms. Staff were good although location is super loud.
Awesome hostel, love the atmosphere, free caipi every night, and very nice beds with curtains and lockable case to charge your phone.

This was a fantastic hostel to stay at. The staff were really nice and helpful and the owner was there everyday to check in on things and chat to everyone and was a really nice guy. The facilities were the best in South America, curtains on every bunk ensured an excellent nights sleep and everything was clean and well maintained. There was great storage with a big locker for your bag and a smaller one next to each bed with outlets. The breakfast was OK and the free Caipirinha´s were awesome!
Acai is the best hostel I've ever stayed at in my life. I met the greatest people and as a solo traveler that is very important. Francisco, the owner, cultivates an energetic and positive atmosphere where you can truly feel at home. If you are going to Salvador stay at Acai.

I loved it a lot :) the staffs were all friendly. Francisco took us to awesome places like traditional band show and the bar where foreigners wouldnt know!! he took cared very well of his guests!! another great thing was the room was so nice. each bed, there were curtains, electricity and light, which made me have a good sleep. hostel was built recently everything was clean and new!! the town where its located was really traditional and just beautiful. definitely I'd come back there next time
Unfortunately we were also one of those that were robbed as mentioned in other reviews this April. Even though the situation was very tense and stressful the staff handled it very calmly and well. They have our admiration for this. Certainly, the hostel has to boost up the security measures (is actually doing it right now) It was truly one of the best hostels we have stayed at in Brazil and we wish them lot of luck and strength to go on!
I am so sad to be the one to describe what happened. The hostel was robbed by gunmen at 4am on 21 April 2015. They took everyone's cash and electronics. It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life, I likely will not be coming back to Salvador. The hostel staff are great, the atmosphere is fantastic. They NEED to make the security better on the roof. Especially after this incident.
I also was there on the night that the hostel was assaulted, it was a terrible experience. Before this I only had good comments about the hostel, it´s well located, the staff is attentive, in the rooms every bed has a small box with a plug inside and a key, personal light, fan, a black courtain and a locker . The breakfast its really good, also free caipirinhas and on mondays they do churrasco for 15 reales. Its a pity that this assault happend (it shows that Salvador it´s a dangerous city).
The hostel is great! Great beds, great varanda, nice breakfast, great atmosphere. The whole hostel was set up to be very functional and fun. However, I lived there one of the worst experiences of my life. One night 3 armed men came in the hostel, took all our money and electronics and then looked us in the bathroom. The hostel of course is not responsible, and the whole staff were true heroes through the entire thing but it was such a scary experience that I had to share it..
If you want to get in touch and party with other backpackers, that´s your place. There´s always something going on and people hanging out on the terrace. I stayed there a Monday night and their BBQ was really great (abundant and delicious). However, the samba club on the other side of the street is really noisy and when you´re in your room it´s as loud as if your where right on the dancefloor. The ground floor had a strong smell of mold. I think rooms there don´t even have windows. Book first floor
Very good location. Beds are perfect (with safe box, lockers) good breakfast and nice atmosphere with free drinks. Love it
