An amazing and unexpectedly brilliant experience
Ace York hostel was pretty good, great location within the old town but close to the station. The staff are really helpful and while not a party hostel they let you know what's on and where to go in York, there's decent sized common areas to meet people. Breakfast is better than the average with fruit and croissants. It's in a cool old building as long as you don't mind the stairs.
Very nice and quiet. It was a nice relaxing place with good breakfast.
Lovely hostel with kind staff. Very close to the station and a short walk to all the attractions. Some of the lockers under the beds were broken. Beds were very comfortable though. Bathrooms were on the small side and not well ventilated. We would stay there again though.
The staff was very helpful in helping us find bars/clubs on our first night in town. The rooms were really nice and much bigger than I expected. I would definitely recommend this hostel to a friend!
Great hostel, really quiet but nice facilities- just the showers weren't very hot and the building was really cold. Not the best place to meet other travellers, but if you want a quiet few days in a nice hostel, go for it!
This is an amazing building. I loved my time there. It is a very clean and nice building.
Hostel is very charming. My bed was one out of 4 in a basement room. There is a small window and one bathroom with a shower for the people in the room to use. Even though the idea of a basement room may seem odd, it was very charming and well decorated. The entire hostel is historic and there are plaques on the walls that tell the story of what every room was originally used for. There is a chill-out room in the basement, a reading room on the first floor and a kitchen. Staff was very kind.
Great location, fantastic history and loved the way it was set out. Unfortunately, we arrived quite sick on a very cold night, and were rather upset to discover the water for the shower was barely lukewarm, and the room was freezing cold. The small wall heater did warm it up several degrees eventually, but combined with being sick and the cold shower it was a very cold night! If even the heater had been just left on for a few hours before we arrived it would have been better.

I'm not too sure if I understand why this hostel is more expensive than hostels in other notable cities in England, especially when the facilities are quite average.
The atmosphere in this very nice hostel is great! You feel like you are in an old manor.
We had a mixed experience at the Ace York Hostel... The hostel was nice and in a good location. In our first room, 6 bed mixed dorm with ensuite, we had no hot water, so we had to shower in the shared bathroom. We got moved into another room as they couldn't resolve the problem, which was nice as they let us have the room to ourselves, but again, cold showers in there too. The wifi in the hostel was very poor/did not work at all, so we had to go elsewhere to check emails we were waiting on.
Nice hotel, good staff. NO LIKE: room was cool.
A Double Room: Nice room/building at first glance BUT: breakfast is served until 9am, check out at 10am (and they knock on your door at 10am if you are a bit late), bathroom is a ferry cabin, no soap and it was impossible to sleep: A very noisy hot air-conditioning system sending very warm air, the room was boiling! (impossible to turn it off), staff at the reception told us that it will stop automatically at midnight, it never stopped. Noisy hotel (music). Unfriendly staff. Never Again!

Staff were nice and the hostel was close to the train station. But we stayed in a twin room in the basement and the bathroom was very small and smelt pretty funky. It was really difficult to sleep because the generator just outside our bedroom window cut in and out all night and the big old wooden door to our room made random creaking noises all night. We assume the sheets were stained not dirty. Wireless only works on the ground floor, doesn't reach far. A good location and a functional room.
Great place to stay. Such a fancy hostel with plenty of room in the dorms for your stuff snd the beds were warm and comfy. All round great stay.
Very nice hostel in a beautiful building. Breakfast is good and kitchen facilities.Beds are ok and lockers in room. Very clean and showers are ok. Was a bit pricey but could of been halloween and weekend.Good atmosphere and helpful staff
Simply, it is OK for staying a couple of days.
We were staying at the basement. The toilet stinks and we couldn't open the window as there's a big trash bin outside.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful! Didn't love that they had allowed a school trip of dozens of tweens to stay but they handled them well. Nice breakfast and a quick walk into the main part of town and near the train station.
