Could not use my padlock for the safetybox beneath the bed, a part was missing. Would be good if wifi could be used in bedroom, it's 2014. Beautiful building, clean rooms/ beds and nice staff. Good location in nice area. Close to train station.

I really liked the fact that it was close to the train station and 10 mins walk to the city centre, other than that it was very average

Very clean and convenient.

Nice place overall but felt too expensive for tiny bathrooms that never seemed clean, doors that didn't close properly and a tiny kitchen. The wifi was patchy at best as well.

Had a good stay at this hostel. The hostel itself is in an old house and each room has a plaque with information about the room's former use which was interesting. The staff were friendly and helpful. My room was extremely cold which made the stay uncomfortable. I was assured that the room had heating however there was no radiator or evidence of vents for central heating so make sure you bring your thermals! School groups tend to use the hostel and can be loud and irritating.

The room is spacious. The bathroom is also very clean. Not far from the central, a good choice in York.

An amazing and unexpectedly brilliant experience

Ace York hostel was pretty good, great location within the old town but close to the station. The staff are really helpful and while not a party hostel they let you know what's on and where to go in York, there's decent sized common areas to meet people. Breakfast is better than the average with fruit and croissants. It's in a cool old building as long as you don't mind the stairs.

Very nice and quiet. It was a nice relaxing place with good breakfast.

Lovely hostel with kind staff. Very close to the station and a short walk to all the attractions. Some of the lockers under the beds were broken. Beds were very comfortable though. Bathrooms were on the small side and not well ventilated. We would stay there again though.

The staff was very helpful in helping us find bars/clubs on our first night in town. The rooms were really nice and much bigger than I expected. I would definitely recommend this hostel to a friend!

Great hostel, really quiet but nice facilities- just the showers weren't very hot and the building was really cold. Not the best place to meet other travellers, but if you want a quiet few days in a nice hostel, go for it!

This is an amazing building. I loved my time there. It is a very clean and nice building.

Hostel is very charming. My bed was one out of 4 in a basement room. There is a small window and one bathroom with a shower for the people in the room to use. Even though the idea of a basement room may seem odd, it was very charming and well decorated. The entire hostel is historic and there are plaques on the walls that tell the story of what every room was originally used for. There is a chill-out room in the basement, a reading room on the first floor and a kitchen. Staff was very kind.

Great location, fantastic history and loved the way it was set out. Unfortunately, we arrived quite sick on a very cold night, and were rather upset to discover the water for the shower was barely lukewarm, and the room was freezing cold. The small wall heater did warm it up several degrees eventually, but combined with being sick and the cold shower it was a very cold night! If even the heater had been just left on for a few hours before we arrived it would have been better.

I'm not too sure if I understand why this hostel is more expensive than hostels in other notable cities in England, especially when the facilities are quite average.

The atmosphere in this very nice hostel is great! You feel like you are in an old manor.

We had a mixed experience at the Ace York Hostel... The hostel was nice and in a good location. In our first room, 6 bed mixed dorm with ensuite, we had no hot water, so we had to shower in the shared bathroom. We got moved into another room as they couldn't resolve the problem, which was nice as they let us have the room to ourselves, but again, cold showers in there too. The wifi in the hostel was very poor/did not work at all, so we had to go elsewhere to check emails we were waiting on.

Nice hotel, good staff. NO LIKE: room was cool.
