most spartan I have been in, not secure lockers. Bathroom and shower way too small. I am 5'10" and weight is 175 lbs so not obese.

We found the hostel more than satisfactory. The girl on reception was excellent, helpful, informed, cheerful and prepared to assist us as much as possible. There was no soap or shampoo in the room and we assumed that these were not included, however, when we mentioned it at reception, we were given all we wanted and got an apology for their oversight.

Beautiful hostel located in a restored old mansion, lots of character. One of the nicer hostels I've stayed at. Location is good although close to a couple night clubs which I imagine could get noisy on weekends. During the week the disturbance was mininimal.

On our first night we were kept awake until about 0330 due to the extremely loud bass music coming from a nearby club. We can cope with 'normal' club noise and the associated crowds outside, but this was rattling the windows! There was no problem on the subsequent 2 nights, and we enjoyed our stay otherwise.

Great hostel. However would be nice if staff told you that the rooms were in Roman numerals, rather then to give you a standard number then leave you wandering up and down.

Very happy with our short stay. The breakfast was most adequate, the rooms were clean, and excellent attention was given to the history of the building. The location was most convenient and the staff were most helpful and businesslike.

If you are going to York i would recommend staying at the Ace York .it's close to all the tourist attractions, rail station and the staff are very helpful. i reached York earlier than expected but the staff at the hostel stored my bags until check in time which was a great help.

Great, spacious, CLEAN hostel. Loved the plaques outside each door explaining what each room was once used for!

The hotel was in an old church, which added character but also meant it was quite cold and creaky with all sorts of noises throughout the night - especially as we were staying in the basement floor. Upon arrival at almost 3pm, we were told our room was not ready. We waited in the common room and were let in after about half an hour. The room was clean and sizeable with ensuite, however cold as mentioned before. The bathroom had no soap, front desk told us this was not provided?!

The only fault with this hostel is the lack of bathrooms on the upper levels. oh, and it may be haunted...

It's extremely noisy until 3am due to the club behind the hostel - not for light sleepers!
