Location was fantastic, close to rail station and everything in town. Breakfast was a great inclusion. Only dislike was the cold showers, but luckily we were only there for one nite!

Bunk beds for a couple married for 30 years was strange. Shower water rather tepid. But situation and value cannot be beaten. Staff were were very helpful and freindly and the breakfast a bonus.

Very nice hostel, in an excellent location. Only snags were the small bathrooms and the staff seemed very snobbish.

When we arrived the boy on reception asked us to wait the ten minutes until his shift was over before we could check it. Our train had been delayed and we had an event we were due at so weren't really able to do this. He gave us keycards so we could leave knowing full well we wouldn't be able to check in later, the next morning he told us he'd given our beds away. My friends and I had to move rooms in the middle of our stay. Terrible customer service.

The communal bathrooms could have been checked more on a regular basis to be kept clean. Mirrors could be installed in rooms. The ensuite sink has a glass shelf above which is too low and also very deep this can be dangerous if you bed your head to the sink ie when cleaning teeth/washing face. Otherwise this place is in an ideal location, welcoming and excellant value for money. My second time there and will keep going.

The rooms were too hot (in winter - they don't really need to start off hot when you're going to have up to 10 people sleeping in them) but it was clean and there were some nice facilities like the bar and free breakfast and wifi etc. Good location, easy walk to all parts of town and the house itself gorgeous. There were some people absolutely screaming and chanting and so on outside one night, but that can't be helped. Staff a little uninterested in guests at times. Shower slightly cold.

Good facilities & location but very uncomfortable bed - mine had a big dip in the middle and I've stayed in much cheaper hostels with better beds. Note also all rooms are mixed dorms and even the staff tells me not to eat at the bar.

York is very small, so the location of the hostel did not influence much. The bathrooms are horrible, they are a plastic box, and when you go take a shower the floor will get very wet. The staff is very colddo not expect for fun. The Internet is slow. The hostel is beautiful, indeed. My staying here was very good, I am not talking just for the bad things, but for the things that will probbably affect some ppl travel. As every hostel, have some bad and good things. I recommend.

Thank you for a pleasant stay. A big shout out to the reception staff - you guys made my stay! They are extremely happy and great to be around, helped me with finding my way, some Internet problems I had, booking a Shakespearean show and my meals. Thanks a lot!

It was a different experience to live in an historic house yet with a convenience of a modern house. The story of each room is really interesting. The staffs are helpful and approachable, the linen are clean, the breakfast are ready on time with some choices. The en-suite bathroom is also clean. I only wish that the washbasin is a bit bigger. The room is a bit cold on my last night and the bed creaks when I move. Hopefully those can be amended. I enjoy staying at Ace York:)

We were arranged to stay in a room in the basement, which was a bit cold and always smelly. Outside the window was a noisy machine and the door had a strange sound when we were sleeping. But apart from these unsatisfying features, the house is beautiful and historical.

Beautiful hostel, spotlessly clean, excellent service. I wish the wifi reached the rooms, and that the kitchen had a bit more storage space, but it was a great stay regardless and I'l definitively recommend it to others.

Nice building. Friendly staff. Only stayed one night but it was just what I needed - somewhere decent to stay near the city centre. Many thanks

It's a very nice place to stay. The facilities and services are amazing; our room had a security box, a tv, and (I really loved this) a heating pot and a tray with everything to make coffee or tea and even 2 little snacks (refilled every day). The location is not exactly downtown, but you can get there walking and its really close to the train station. The decoration is really nice and everywhere you can find info about the building's history.
