Very clean hostel but not a very good social setting; a bit quiet border lining on rigid atmosphere. Staff of mixed enthusiasm and for most of my short stay the dining room was blocked off for a swarm of children from some organized trip including the kitchen where I kept my food so it was extremely annoying not to be able to get in from 5:30 to 8:00pm. Otherwise free wifi is great and the location is excellent.

Ace Hostel was THE BEST hostel I've ever stayed in!! From the second I walked in, to the moment I left- There is nothing bad I can say about Ace.. Well maybe only there is no lift, but that doesn't matter :P

Nice clean hostel with character. Can be a bit of a wait for the bathroom (one ensuite for ten girls plus an extra one shared with the floor). Take some earplugs as we could hear nightclub noises from the street. Very good value for money and pleasant surroundings.

Positives, liked the movie room and all the signs explaining what the rooms used to be and a good breakfast. Warning, it is very noisy at the weekends, I had base music from next door until 4 in the morning, tiny bathroom ensuites which wouldnt be a problem if the shower didnt flood everything, also the light in the bathroom and also casued the light outside the bathroom 2 be on which sucks if u have the bunk by the bathroom as u get woken up a lot. But still i would go there again

Staff were very help full. My only critism would be the thin single glazed windows did nothing to block out the noise from the local bars, so very noisy

The building this hostel is set in is great, but the whole hostel lacks any character through it's own decorations. I do like how there are explanations of the history of each room as you walk in, but once inside they are just bare rooms with clinical metal beds and white sheets. The front desk staff = helpful. However, the bartender was super rude. Walked in and no one behind the bar so I waited near the door watching the TV. The bartender growled at me to "step in or step out" later.

I wish there were a higher standard than Excellent for value for money. It was the best place I had ever been to. The rooms were great and clean and the beds were actually comfortable. All of the staff members were extremely helpful and polite. The atmosphere was great and I had a really great experience.

I cannot say enough about this hostel, it had more charm than most hotels I\'ve stayed in. The staff were so friendly, a stark contrast to most hostels I stayed in around the UK. The rooms were a good size, the building was modern with tons of modern features (a lot of which they have identified by interesting plaques on the wall). Highly recommend, a great place to stay in this lovely city.

Ace York hostel was like getting to sleep in a historic hotel for half the price. It is really beautiful inside, and their dorms are neat, clean and the bunks are well spaced. The kitchen is pretty good, and they serve a nice breakfast in the morning. I would go back anytime!

Best hostel I have stayed at in Europe. The old-style building is charming and the rooms were very spacious and clean. The ensuite shower/toilet area was a bit cramped (very hard to stop the floor getting wet) but that was my only complaint. The bar and games room were great extras and the complimentary breakfast was very generous (and included crossiants)1

Fantastic building and loads of space. Given that they have spent £2m on refurbishing the place and it looks like it too:).. the beds were a bit rubbish/wobbly. They give you a rack under the bed for your stuff which is padlockable but no padlocks. Can't really comment on the atmosphere as was only there 1 night and wasn't about much -only gave average because they didn't seem to organise anything and there was no buzz.
