Most of the staff not very helpful. Central heating was not working so the room was freezing and I have fallen ill as a consequence! First night someone in my room went down to ask about it and nothing was done. Second night I went down to ask if something could be done and was responded with an exasperated: "Oh people are either too cold or too hot." YES it isn't nice to be too hot or cold!! And absolutely nothing was done. Room was still freezing. One guy was sleeping with his winter jacket!

It was a nice hostel. Clean and bright. It needed heating in the main tv area though- it was freezing. The kitchen was update. It would have been terrific to have a coffee machine available.

The hostel is fine, wuite good actually, but the room I stayed in (female shared dorm) is incredibly noisy. There is an air conditioning working 24/7, very noisy, and it is impossible to sleep at all in that room.

Everything was great except the kitchen is a bit too small.

This is a great little hostel - more of a boutique little hotel with shared rooms, really. My partner and I were staying in York overnight and wanted a cheaper alternative to hotels and B&Bs. We booked a private room, which was considerably nicer than many B&B rooms I've stayed in. Only comment is that on Saturday night you're going to hear bass beats coming from bars and restaurants until 3am. Aside from that, lovely place!

The place was nice and there was almost minimal noise from outside except the base from the bars at 2am. The lockers under the beds were nearly all broken and most of them couldn't be used. There was no hot water in the showers. It's a cute place and location is good both coming from the train station and to get to the centre, just a few things that could use big improvements.

Super nice hostel. Lots of little things you take for granted at some hostels. Also it is a charming little house that they took the time to label every room and what it used to be from when the house was originally built. EG this used to be the dinning room. I can't think of a reason why I wouldn't recommend this to anyone going to York. Close to station? check. Walking distance from the Minster? Check.

The hostel has the great location in the city center. But on the second night of my stay the roommates in my dorm were a bit noisy. The hostel has little to deal with that of course but I was just a bit frustrated with that. It is nice to have free internet provided and this is so important for internet users like me. Rooms are clean and the game room is particularly great for people who want to have some quiet time.

I walked in at the man at the desk was extreamly rude to me when I was signing in. I felt like I was a big inconvience for him. Like wtf? But there was also a lady at the desk who was super kind.

I booked this hostel for my son and ended up paying £50 fine for smoking in the room.I think this is unfair and should have been charged to the guests.I did not have any control over the charge as it was taken off my card. Will never book on someone elses behalf again

Well England is expensive PERIOD. But the quality is low. I'm not going to leave a lot of comments but what really needs attention at this place is how EXTREMELY COLD IT IS!!! It's almost the same as to sleep outside. England is NOT Maldives and not Spain!!! It is VERY COLD! SO please get some heaters. They do exist in the 21st century.
