What I didn't like about my stay is that staying with 10 people in a room is quite unpersonal (people come and go and you don't really talk to them) and noisy because everyone gets up at a different time and that it was too hot in the room. But you can't do anything about this because it was me who booked a 10-bed-room and an unusual hot summer. Thanks for the stay! I had a lovely time.
Gorgeous rooms but the bathrooms were a little small in the rooms. I thought I was going to flood the bathroom when I was showering because the drain was not fast enough. The location was great and the staff was nice! Loved this place and would stay here again!
Good location (5 min. walk to the train station and the center), good breakfast with fresh fruits, lounge with big comfortable sofas, small kitchen. Shanky beds, only one bathroom for 12 beds, poor shower drainage. The building used to be a home for a rich family. There are some explanations for each room.
Great hostel! I really enjoy my stay here. The location is great! The staff was really friendly and helpful! Great atmosphere! Great breakfast! Great facilities! It has really pretty and big common areas and a small but nice and well equipped kitchen! I would highly recommend it and would definitely stay here again!
This is one of my favourite hostels that I've ever stayed at! The building is a restored 18th-century mansion and there's a plaque outside of every room stating what it had previously been used for. The atmosphere's perfect for historic York. The rooms and washrooms are very clean and there's free wifi on the ground floor. The location's great and only about 5-10 minutes from the train station! The staff was SUPER friendly. I'd definitely recommend this hostel!
An excellent central location. Friendly staff, a very nice building. I was told I could leave my laptop with the staff for security, however they left it in an un-manned, un-locked room near the entrance of the hostel where anybody could have wandered in and taken it.
it is one of the best place i ever stay. the location is great, near to the train station and not far from the central york. quiet and nice staff. the most important thing is it looks just like a castle, the little note in front every door is interesting. it is a pity i could not make a few more stay there. very popular, especially in weekend. so just book it you will enjoy it .
As ever I loved my stay here! Thanks so much guys :]
The hostel is so beautiful. I really enjoyed the atmosphere there cause it is a house of long history. But the docaration is fantastic. The location is also so convient. Very satisfied with it!!!

No lifts or automatic stairs regarding is an old building, and that`s really difficult. Anyway is a great place to stay!
Really nice hostel, very conveniently located and would recommend it to anyone visiting York. Only slight complaint is the size of the bathroom, too small for a six bed dorm.

Spent two nights, one in a basement 4-bed dorm and one on the top floor. Having the ensuite in the basement was nice but it was tiny! All the bathrooms were. Which is annoying when they're all mixed dorms so you can't change in your room. The beds were crazy rickety - the whole thing moved when climbing up to the top bunk. Breakfast was adequate. Beds do not have individual lights/shelves. Building itself was cool and historical. Backpack didn't fit in the small drawer under bed.
Really enjoyed my stay, great value for money. Only downside was 1 en suite bathroom to share between 14 people so most had to use the communal on different floors but would still stay there again. Brilliant set up for a hen weekend
Very exceptional environment. Few hostels give a sense of history. Facilities were exactly what one would expect.
I was impressed with the facilities - decent kitchen, great lounge, perfect for relaxing after a long day of sight seeing. I loved the building and decor - sweeping staircase, big leather sofas. Great location just around the corner from the train station, short walk to city center. Clean and comfortable, probably the best hostel I have very stayed in.
Bit disappointed that there was no bar but a part from that really enjoy stay

Very clean, interesting and beautiful Georgian building though it has been virtually stripped of its original decor, thus its lacking in the charm it originally would have had. The place was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Complaints: some of the other guests were very obnoxious. There appeared to have been a hen party happening and there were lots of young people around being very rowdy both in the evening and at breakfast the next morning. Also, loud club next door.
Was a really good central location. The rooms were nice however not much sound proofing could hear all the noise from the street. The kitchen is tiny. The common was good but about overcrowded with couhes, though the down stairs games room was good.
This hostel was great with regards to facilities, breakfast and how close it was to all the attractions. Unfortunately next to late night bar so ear plugs are advised if you want any sleep before 1am.
