The person is nice. But the room is very small and the environment is a little bit dark.

The staff are friendly and the location is ok. However, we felt that in comparison to other hostels in Taipei, it was over priced. We had a tiny room with bunk beds and shared bathroom and we also got bitten by mosquitoes all night; for the same price we got a large double room with private bathroom, tv, fridge and closer to the mrt station at another hostel.

Across the Ocean was one of the best hostel experiences I've ever had. The facilities were clean and functional, and most importantly, the staff was friendly and welcoming. It may seem a little out of the way, but it's actually in a great neighborhood with a bunch of cheap places to eat. And it's really only a 10-15 minute walk to the nearest subway; this slight inconvenience is a small price to pay for such a great place. I highly recommend Across the Ocean to anyone stopping in Taipei.

They are polite and sweet. The price was very cheap. I met many new friends. But the pity is you can't talk loud at night since the neighbour will complain.

Cute, quaint little hostel in the city centre of Taipei. Unfortunately it is not so close to the subway (MRT) system, but there are a number of busses to use if you take the time to figure them out. It would be nice if there were more computer facilities as many people travelling do not travel with a laptop. Staff was very knowledgable.

Stayed here a month and loved it. Bottom story is a cool vintage cafe. It's owned and ran by 5 friends, all of which became my friends while I was here. Extremely nice and friendly, relaxing atmosphere, nothing but good things to say.

I just hope that the cafe will open a bit earlier, like 9am so the guests can enjoy quality breakfast too.

The hostel is actually a traditional Taiwanese building. Old windows, old stairs and old bath tube are remained by the owner of Across The Ocean. That is the unique character of the hostel. Also, it is near Yong Kan Street (永康街), easy to get there.

The hostel was very clean and the staff was extremely helpful. It was a little difficult to find so consult your map before going. The location is ideal for seeing all of Taipei, not just one section. They provide toast and tea for breakfast. As far as facilities, they limit hot water showers to morning and later in the evening. I recommend this hostel for Taipei sightseers!

For 500 NT a night, this was a total waste of money. The night before I stayed in a hostel for 300 NT in a 3 bed mixed dorm. This hostel charged 500 NT for a 10 bed mixed dorm, and they require their guests to make their own beds and strip their own sheets. Also, there are set hours for hot water, so don't try to take a shower in the afternoon, even though check-in is after 2pm. The cafe downstairs has a very short menu with very over-priced items.

The staff was very friendly. But the facility especially the bed and pillow is.very poor standard. Thin and hard mattrasa. Rhen pillow waa very thin as well. The single room was very small and cramped. So nor value for money. But i like the atnosphere

The 4 bedded room is rather small, has barely enough room to walk about. Staying as a group is not worth the money. It should be modified to take in only 3 persons instead - 1 two tier bunkbeds & 1 elevated bed with space below to accomodate the bags. Also, in the room & bathrooms there ought to be ample hooks on the walls to hang our clothing. A good point about the bunkbed - they are very sturdy so much so that there is not a slightest movement transmitted to the other sleeper.

I stayed at Across the Ocean for 3 nights and had a great time there. The staff is really nice and helpful, they make you feel at home. The hostel is very well situated, not far from the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial and several subway lines, and it is a great alternative for travelers who want to try something different from the usual hostel experience and stay in a traditional 1950's Taiwanese house.
