We were moved to a different hostel - (Dakota) which was fine. Wasn't happy about having to pay 15% extra on the bill because of the San Fran tax - would have been nice to know before hand on the Hostelworld website. Room was ok - no mirror except for the bathroom. One bed was made every day, one was made the last 2 days and one wasn't touched at all. Was a bit weird. A couple of the staff were nice - some only grunted when we talked to them. No fruit at breakfast - but the rest was good.

They have a great kitchen/common room and nightly activities so that members of the hostel get a chance to hang out. It was very accessible from Union square and there are a ton of restaurants within walking distance.

I really loved the commons rooms--especially the living room area with the couches. My only issue was figuring out where the outlets were so I could charge my computer down there--had to hunt around. I really enjoyed the opportunity to interact with people from so many different places I would have greatly appreciated it if some non-bar-related activities were more readily available. (I admit I did miss the gingerbread activity by one day, which would have been fun)

The location is great. Union Square is within walking distance. Note that there is no network for your mobile phone once you're inside the hostel. You can use the wifi, however the wifi signal is poor.

We rated poor overall on staff, but the girl at the reception on the day shift was pretty nice and the guy who helped during breakfast was very customer oriented. The guys outside smoking joints doesn't add character, it makes people more repellent to the hostel. Nice place to meet people, the living room was also relaxing and at the same time a place to chat. We had a great experience with our roommates, even went on road trips with them. Make it less junkie and be more customer oriented =)

I have travelled through Europe, Africa, Asia, and Southern and Northern America; Adelaide Hostel is definitely one of the best hostels I have stayed. Here are the hostel's strengths and weaknesses: + excellent location in the heart of San Francisco + very nice and helpful staff + well equipped (great kitchen, lockers, living rooms, computers, several bathrooms each floor, etc.) + low priced + comparatively clean - small dorm rooms - noisy beds

I think we were lucky enought to have stayed in Adelaide Hostel in SF, it ranked the NO.3 Hostel in the whole US in 2011, and it totally deserved it. Loved the atomosphere there, the homy and christmassy ambience of the living room and the great free breakfast every morning were abslutely the highlights. We stayed in private room for two people by the living room, it was spacious, clean&confortable(what we needed),I'll defenitly recommand to anybody travel there with budget and come back myself.

we really enjoyed staying in that little cute hostel. They had a large living room, decorated very nicely with christmas trees during christmas. It felt like home! Best breakfast on our roadtrip through California! nice rooms and bathrooms!

GOOD THINGS: The breakfast was amazing!, really clean (restrooms, sheets, beds), comfortable beds, the staff was really helpful, good facilities, free internet in a lot of computers, the common areas were really nice, free coffee and tea all day, TO IMPROVE: there were only a few showers, the hostel was all day with weed smell and people high. This was a great hostel I will stay there again

Finding the hostel can take a bit of maneuvering if driving there, but they do have designated parking rentals a block or two away from the hostel. My friends and I (three of us) opted for the co-ed dorm-style room. On day three of our stay, there was a weird smell, but, after explaining to the staff, they relocated us for our final night to a private room with little hassle. Actually made friends with a couple of staff members who . The area's perfect to walk around, right next to many places!

I have stayed in quite a few hostels internationally. This one is surprisingly welcoming and nice. It was clean and there was an open atmosphere. The only thing that proved difficult was the 10am checkout time. Could have used an extra hour.

It was really comfortable sitting in the lounge. However, you may feel awkward if you don't like old ashion style and you are about to order a 3 people private room because you are going to be sent to Dakota Hotel which is a old-fashion-style hotel.

The breakfast provided was great - bagels, toast, fruit salad, coffee - perfect way to start a day of sightseeing. Location was pretty good, and rooms were very clean. Airport shuttle was a deal. Private rooms were in a hotel ... what a bargain! and we still had access to the hostel activities
