Irish receptionist seemed a peeved we arrived at 8pm. Sent 'round the back to park and to rear entrance to get into hostel. No lighting, no signs to the back door. Weren't told that the security number was on the key (but worked it out eventually). Fab bed, slept well and fun kitchenl/ounge facilities :)

Right in the centre of town, only problem was that it was absolutely FREEEEZING. There was a wall heater in our room but it made very worrying noises and glowed bright red, thought it might explode at any moment.

I love the Adelphi Lodge, I felt at home instantly. The old fashioned rooms are beautiful and I feel like Im living in the 1920s which is great! If I were to stay in Kaikoura for a couple of months, I would deffinatly rent one of your rooms for myself. The staff is so nice and friendly as well. Thank you!

A really pleasant hostel to stay at with a decent bar next door. Had various events happening and were able to book various trips for us. Right in the town centre meant good access to gift shops, supermarkets and within 5 minutes walk of the whale watching tours and some mini-golf. The staff were willing to help with everything and it was very quiet. The carpark round the back kept the vehicle out the way of traffic which was good.

We can not comment on Adelphi Lodge as when we arrived to book in for the night they could not find our booking ( even though we had paid a deposit) AND they were full up. The gentleman, filling in on reception , was very apologetic and helped us to find altenative accommodation in the town. He also refunded our deposit.. Not a good experience as we had been travelling many hours -all the way from Levin in the N. Island ,across on the ferry and down to Kaikoura all in the one day.

Loved the Far Side cartoons everywhere! Door to balcony did not lock - also bathroom could've been a bit cleaner.

close to bus stops and in the town center facilities were poor in the sense of no sinks in the toilets but only antibacterial stuff which was always empty if you like going out you might just like the bar downstairs if you rather want to have a good night sleep, choose another hostel because the music from downstairs can be heard all night long

No washbasins in the toilets and the soap that was supposed to replace them was over from the whole hostel. Rooms ok, not the cleanest though.

They claimed to have free wi-fi access but this was not true. The place was very dingy and dark and the kitchen was poorly equipped.

The kitchen is really wonderful, the staff are so friendly and the rooms are comfy. The VHS player and movies were a really odd and endearing feature to the hostel that we appreciated. Highly recommend if you want somewhere with a bit of character.

Good central hostel.... Not impressed with having to pay for wifi, as this is a basic service which should I think should be provided at no cost... Its free in South and Central America!!!!
