In general I thought that the lodge was acceptable if possibly a little highly priced for what one received. The owners could add value by having a full time person to tend to the reception and bar.

We stayed at the African Jewel Lodge for 2 nights and had an awesome time. The people running the place are fun to hang around with and really easy going. The bedrooms are not really big, but cozy and comfortable. The hostel is just a small walk away from the Knysna mall, as well as most of the restaurants and pubs. Great place to go! Great place to stay!
