he hostel is close to a bus station for trips to Beaufort, lawas, Bruni and miri. It is right next to Gaya Street where you can visit Sunday Market. It is close to many restaurants one of which offers inexpensive dishes and seafood. It is called Old Farm, in Cithpark and opposite Post Office. It is only fifteen minutes walk to Jesslton ferry pier where you board boats for islands such as Manukan, Sapi ( two of the islands of the Turku Rahman National Park)
DO NOT STAY HERE. Dorm room was cramped and hot. There was no space to put luggage comfortably in the room. Beds were uncomfortable and wobbly. I slept on the top bunk

With good location, comfortable public place. As if you need help, they offer kindly advice.
great common room, helpful staff, stayed a few times on this trip
Poor choices for breakfast - just white bread and overly sweet fake jam! Beds are reasonably comfortable, albeit without any extras on offer - for example, there's no plug point in the bedroom for charging phones and cameras...
It was a wonderful stay at the hostel, the atmosphere was excellent. Looking forward to stay there again in the future~
stayed twice, on my second stay (beginn of august 2013) we had bed bugs.
Cheap but The beds were squeaky and very uncomfortable. The toilets did not consistently flush. Did not choose to stay there on my returning stay to KK!
You get what you pay for, simple as that. Good location within Kota Kinabalu, and friendly staff. Would be better to pay an extra couple of ringit for AC past 7 o'clock...get's very hot if you want to sleep in.
Akinabalu really impressed me!! We were expected to arrive late (10pm) and leave early (4:30am) the very next day in order to climb Mount Kinabalu, and from the moment we arrived everything went so smoothly. They were already expecting us, had arranged to have a taxi come and pick us up right on time, recommended some close restaurants to eat dinner, and had a simple breakfast waiting for us before we left. So friendly and welcoming! :)
great location. dorm rooms are dark with really noisy bunk beds. besides this, the staff is very helpful and there's a good common room. would definitely recommend staying here.
Good, clean, basic, no frills backpackers. Be mindful that you will need to pay for a towel for the shower, and air con only comes on at 7pm, so it can get uncomfortably hot in your 'air conditioned' room during the day.
it was really nice. rooms are clean. bathrooms are also nice. the living room has some really comfy sofas and the atmosphere is good for relaxing and chatting with other travelers.

good value for what you pay for the staff are able to help you book tours. the dorms were hot, with only a ceiling fan. poor availability of sockets to recharge batteries, only had one wall socket the 5-bed room
Clean enough, but nothing special, facilities were ok, wi-fi only in the lounge area, showers were a bit hit and miss depending on the time of day, but ok considering its in KK. The biggest thing was that the air-con only runs from 7pm to 7am, something we weren't told at the time of booking, so beware of that, it's not that bad though because you're not really in the room during the day anyway.
An ok hostel in KK, but far from the best available for the price. Beds, showers, toilets were all clean. Valuables lockers available though they are tiny so if you have a laptop/tablet you can leave it at reception - though when doing this the staff often seemed to respond as if it was an imposition. Breakfast pretty uninspired too, just white bread and one type of jam. Could have at least had some fruit on offer.
