Overall it was tidy but very unclean. Indoor tables and chairs were grubby and swamped with flies..off-putting at meal times. Kitchen was big...accommodating for many people preparing food at once. Bathrooms were very dirty and mouldy, and in the private room the drain overflows and floods the bathroom floor! Also we were given wrong advice about the bus to catedral mtn and essentially wasted 2days for a bus that never came! Quite frustrating.

Really great hostel, one of the best I´ve stayed in in Argentina. Really helpful owners, who will help you with whatever you want to to do. Don´t worry that it is a little way out of town - this is a good thing ! Bariloche is not exactly the prettiest place in the world, but the scenery around town is and all the best scenery is to the west of town´this is where the hostel is based. Great beach, only 5min´s away & lovely garden to chill out in after a hard days walking in the hills. Book it!

Alaska Hostel was just perfect. There is a nice common space with a big kitchen where it is no problem to cook eight persons at the same time. The owners really put their heart into the hostel and just after arrival you get a lot of tips about what to do in Bariloche. And the location is very good! It's about 5 minutes to the beach Playa Bonita...so you can jump quickly into the water after hiking or cycling during the day.

We liked the real "being on vacation" feeling in this ski hut style hostel with the garden around and the beach nearby and therefore we were glad that we didn't stay in a hostel in the town centre. Staff is very friendly, supermarkets are close and it's easy to go by bus to town or other spots. Try the steak "bife de lomo" at the "El Boloche" restaurant - it's fantastic!

Without a doubt the best hostel I have stayed in so far in my 3 months in South America, actually the best hostel I have stayed in anywhere, ever. Very clean, very sociable with great atmosphere and the perfect two hosts (and the dogs). Booked for 4 nights but stayed for 7. Highly recommended!! The directions were a bit daunting at first but as soon as you get on the bus you figure the KM system out so not a problem in the end.

STAY AT THIS HOSTEL!!! I've stayed in so many hostels, and this one is probably in my fav! It's got a great, cosy feel, like a home, attracts really great people, the staff are amazing, beds are comfy (and they even make your bed!). Internet is fast, they provide homemade bread with jams, dulce de leche and coffee. It's not in town, but it's in a way better location anyway, close to all the attractions. Go, go, go, go, go, go!!

Alaska is THE place to stay in Bariloche, book in early as it's almost always full. Naty, Javi and Luca are wonderful, taking the time to get to know their guests and helping them make the most of their stay. Alaska is a home away from home. The breakfast is homemade bread and jams, there is internet access where you can upload photos and skype as well as use wifi. The kitchen is a great place to gather each night and meet other travellers and share a vino or two.

This is a great hostel, the best I have been to. Great atmosphere, the hosts are super nice, I felt like home, and I met great people. The kitchen is very convenient. It is7.5 km from the city, but there is a bus, and it's closer to all the hikes and the attractions. Highly recommended.

Our stay was just amazing! The owners Javi&Naty are really kind and helpful. Staying there you can see&feel that they put their heart&soul into running&maintaining the hostel and that it is their goal to keep all visitors comfortable&satisfied. The house is very charming: rooms are big&comfy, bathrooms are very clean, kitchen is huge (3stoves, 2sinks, 2refrigerators sorted by rooms, everything you need to cook) and you find spices, oil, vinegar, noodles to everybody's usage. We will return!

This is a cute little hostel with two very nice & friendly hosts! It is situated about 15-20 minutes by bus from the centre of Bariloche, but that becomes a problem only if you want to hang out in the city a lot, otherwise most activities are out of town anyway and therefore require a bus ride in most cases, no matter where you stay. Breakfast is the basic Argentinian one (bread, jam, dulce de leche, juice and tea/coffee) and could be improved a little, but the coffee is excellent!

Alaska is the best hostel in Bariloche. If you want a safe and affordable place with a really personal staff, look no further than Alaska. My friends and I had some trouble with our car rental company—two flat tires—and the company's management came to Alaska to argue over the repair costs. Naty translated for over an hour and she defended us too. Naty and Javi are great people. They made our stay very enjoyable. Plus, breakfast was great, the kitchen is fully stocked and everyone is friendly.

I had a great time at the Alaska hostel. The kitchen, eating area and common areas make it a very social and homely place. Javi and Naty, the owners, give great advice on what there is to do around Bariloche. I happened to be there on Christmas Eve and there was a great asado (bbq) - so far a highlight of my trip. Also it was the best breakfast I've had in Argentina.

Loved this place! The common place is created such that there is a lot of interaction among the travellers! Javi is a relaxed and caring guy, and a huge source of information! If I ever return to Bariloche, I will come back to Alaska!
