Very good breakfast. Our private room on the last floor was situated right under the roof and so was way too hot inside even at night when it was chilly outside. We booked with hostelworld for a whole week. We then booked for another night from the hostel directly for when we got back from ilha grande 3 days later. When we arrived at 9 pm the girl at the reception could not find our booking, would not admit the hostel's fault and would not give us another room for the same price.

Great hostel, with lots of artsy, colorful stuff around. Good room, friendly staff, clean bathrooms, decent breakfast. Close to the metro and numerous bus stops. Recommended.

This hostel was most definitely not suited for what I was after. There were no other English speakers while I was there, and instead many families with little kids staying at the hostel. The bar is only open certain nights of the week and there is never anything going on inside the hostel. I found the staff generally unhelpful. When I arrived, the girl at the desk was chatting on the phone and didn't even acknowledge I was there just continued chatting. Positively, I caught up on my sleep!

The location is very convenient. The atmosphere was lively, but would be considered slightly too noisy and crowded. Perhaps I visited during the peak season and the rooms were full. The excellent service by some of the staff and owner. The owner was very kind to let us stay for a nominal fee for the last night despite being fully occupied. I slept on a couch and it was totally comfortable.

One thing I like is the accessibility and location. Very near to Botafago Metro station which will help you connect to RIO.

We booking for Reveillion! The Hostels not hace in the cita center, but walk 200mts to Subway. Not have activistas and party. The bathrooms are clean and nice and the rooms of many people. The best, Dani and Jōao.

We stayed over new years and I understand that the increase the price but the amount it was put up was ridiculous. The kitchen was tiny and cramped and the air con wouldn't be turned on before 11 even tho we paid more. some staff were helpful others were rude and couldn't care. lounge room was not comfortable or big enough. the roof leaked when it rained which was The whole time we were there. over priced and over rated.

15 dorm with triple bunk, so it gets crowded and consequently it's difficult to keep the place organized and clean wifi was very good good breakfast, but in a short time(8 to 10am)

The location is amazing, so near from a subway station and lots of bus stops. The ambiance, great, comfy and warm. The staff was nice, polite and helpful. The bathrooms were usually clean and the breakfast (with no food limitation as I found in some hostels around the world) served typical Brazilian goodies. I was glad to have discovered such a place to stay and when returning to Rio, I'll definitely choose Vila Carioca again...

Nice hostel in Botafogo. The breakfast was very good. The staff are very friendly. Nice common room. Very chilled atmosphere. The rooms are not so great. I was in the 15 bed dorm room. The beds were triple bunks. You have to be almost horizontal to get into bed and I would often hit my knees or my back getting out. Also there was hardly any space in the room. The 15 bed dorm room would probably be a 6 bed room in many hostels. Overall it is a good hostel, the dorm room is just very cramped.

I've spent there longer time than my original booking due to circumstances, i really liked the atmosphere and the location, the hostel has very nice character due to the friendly attitude of almost everyone there. I would suggest an improvement of condition of the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms will be helpful to the enjoyment of the stay. Of course my age group does take some aspect in consideration more than younger age group nevertheless...btw my best greetings to the "cleaning" ladies !

We stayed for a week and met some lovely and helpful people who gave us good advice as we're staying in Brazil for a while. There was a great vibe and a good breakfast...coffee included! Just a short walk away from the metro. Felt very safe...guard at the end of the street and the villa has a gated entrance. I'd definitely stay here again...with pleasure and recommend anyone to do likewise.

booked a favela tour, but it was canceled without warning. braindead receptionist didn´t care at all, didn´t bother providing alternatives or even excusing. one staff guy (edu) joined, was helpful and did call agencies, but others were just plain lazy. sorry. apart from that, nicely kept hostel on a sweet location (it has a garden!).
