The bunk bed mattress and pillow were thin and hard. The guy on reception during the day wasn't very helpful. The wi fi wasn't strong enough to receive a signal in the dorms upstairs. The building wasn't clearly marked so when I arrived I wasn't sure I was in the right place.

Breakfast is really good except there is no juice :) the hostel is nice but nothing for people who like to party and meet new people! everybody more or less sticks to himself! But it's good, beds are kind of strange but still comfortable!

Very well located hostel. We stayed at the private ensuite which was clean, with a large bath. The problem is there's a collective bathroom right outside the door of the ensuite, which can be noisy sometimes, but in general it didn't disturb us too much. Staff could be nicer as well the breakfast.

I really enjoyed this hostels it was pretty nice, and the staff was great! The bathroom was super clean, the water went out once but only for a couple hours. They have triple bed bunk beds in the bigger rooms haha that was very interesting, I've never seen that before. They also have lockers and if you don't have a lock you can buy one. I really liked this hostel, it was pretty cool and located right at the metro so it's super easy to get around.

Good atmosphere, easy to meet other travelers and in a good location. About one block from a metro station so it's easy to get around town. AMAZING and cheap street food just two blocks away.

Very easy to find this well situated and quiet hostel. the staff was very helpful and friendly. they helped me book a city tour as well as a favela tour that proved to be the highlight of my Rio experience. easy to get around by metro from there. they have some good street side restaurants around too. glad to have the A/C in the dorms for muggy nights.

It is a decent hostel, well situated in a calm cul-de-sac with some kind of a barrier and a guard at its entrance. Breakfast is more than correct. WiFi can only be received in the lounge. I STRONGLY suggest installation of boosters in the dorms. They are not expensive, probably not even in Brazil, which is NOT a cheap country, especially for electronics. I would also like the staff to show some enthusiasm and put a smile on their faces more often. It costs nothing and gives a good impression.

Good hostel and good value for money. Only problem, toilet paper goes in bins not in the toilet. Thirds is by far the worst thing about the hostel.

Vila Carioca is an excellent choice when it comes to a backpackers travel to Rio. People there is very kind, facilities are nice and well located.

The service was very good, but don't expect too much from the staff. Especially late at night, you should have your own plan worked out. The staff are just young people working also, so they won't be prepared to plan to help you with everything. There is no phone for calling out, and staff will get annoyed if you ask for too many things. Nonetheless, the staff was never too rude. The staff is 100% better during the day. At night, you're more likely to have a tired teenager at the desk.

Nice breakfast, nice place. The staff didnt know that we were coming, nut there were beds left so no problem. If you suffer from claustrophobia, DONT stay in the mixed dorm. I had to CRAWL to get into my bed which was the bottom one out of three in a 16 m2 room with room for 15 pers. In the girls dorm they provide aircondition which is nice (in the mixed dorm it gets boiling hot during the night) but I it got so cold at night that I got sick when i slept there. Kitchen closes at 10!!!!

Clean, fun and well sized hostel, not too large, not too small. No locks on the doors, but I never had any problems with security. Cool decor and vibe, and one of the better free breakfasts in Brazil. Close to lots of bars and restaurants, a metro station, and located really centrally for Rio, which makes it super easy (and much cheaper) to get to pretty much all locations.

Great hostel real friendly staff... stayed in private and the dorms so saw all that was on offer, maybe a little out of reach of everything but also central to everything.... if that makes sense :-)

We enjoyed our time very much. For sightseeing the location is perfect. The staff booked great trips for us and could always give advice where to find what. The facilities where a bit small and the water did not always work properly but after a short while you could use everything.

This is the best hostel in Rio I have experienced. It is a really fun hostel (but you will get peace and quiet at night). The staff are great and very helpful. I rebooked time and time again. There is a water filter in the kitchen so you save on buying bottled water. Breakfast is great. Dorms are good but BE WARNED, THE 15 PERSON DORM HAS TRIPLE BUNKS and they are hard to get in to. Other dorms are great. Location is great unless you want to be 2 mins walk from the beach.
