Nice hostel although pics are not true at all. Very good fresh juice for breakfast. Location is good to discover Candelaria but if you want to go out at night you should take hostel near Zona Rosa. Nice staff and lovely historic house.

I expected a backpackers hostel would have some information about the city, what to do, where to go, etc, maybe even just a map but they offered no information about any of that stuff. Kind of annoying. The people there were nice but it is abigger hostel and there are many more big groups than individual travelers so it was sort of hard to make friends to explore the city with. But it was very clean. I think they cleaned the rooms twenty times a day and they make the bed fort you.

Was my second stay in Alegrias Hostel, and again it was just perfect! For me it´s the staff who makes the big difference...everybody is sooooo friendly! Moreover: breakfast is really good (fruits, bread and coffee), best shower EVER (shared bathroom in the second building), really comfortable beds. Muchas Gracias y nos vemos el proximo ano ;-) Saludos JCS

I was traveling with 2 friends, and we thought Alegria's was AMAZING. There are 2 houses, literally a block away from each other. We stayed at the main one, but we visited the second one (which is more quiet & relaxed but equally lovely.) We felt really comfortable in the area, but took cabs at night anyway. The staff was friendly & helpful even if there was a language barrier at times.

Very helpful staff. They helped us with everything we needed, from taxis, places to go out or printing our boarding passes.

The hostel was OK, but only OK. We found it loud and cold but some of the staff were very lovely and helpful. It had a great shower and the breakfast was slightly better than average.

Not a bad hostel due to location and set-up, however we went in December and it was absolutely freezing the whole time - there is no form of heating whatsoever. There was hot water if you got up early, but if you left it until later it was just lukewarm. Rooms were basic and the double room 2 was very light so hard to sleep in at all. Also if you don't like dogs/are allergic don't stay here - there are 2 big ones.

We were put in 'Alegria 2', just down the road from the main house. The place is fine, and the staff lovely and helpful. My only real complaint is that there was no key to our room (it had apparently been lost recently) so we had to put our own padlock on. This wasn't particularly secure and it would have been easy to jump the back fence to get directly to the door to our room. Both houses are in an area that is fine during the day but is a little dodgy at night.

A charming and nice hostel (this time we stayed at their second house, very near to the main hostel building). Security and location were good as before, we had no problems walking to the hostel even in the evenings. Good beds, quiet at night. Also there's free and good breakfast. The lady at the reception spoke good English and gave good recommendations for eating & getting around, other staff spoke only Spanish (but were helpful and nice as well).

Alegria's hostel is a little bit far located, just in the top of the hill of Candelaria, but is a safe place, the owner Alegria is nice and helpful, different bathroom and a good breakfast with fresh fruit and juice.. the hostel is quiet, you can rest there without loud music or crazy people!

I would like too say, first I saw a comment saying: - "DOGS ,make thing on the floor" That isn't true. The dogs are lovely and give a great energy to the hostel. Alegria's hostel is one of the best hostels that I ever stay not just because of location and rooms and services in general. But because the staff is really open to new energy ,always take you to the places that aren't crownded with turist,so you can enjoy, the real Bogotá mood.I'll be back soon.

As the first stop on our South America trip, it was a little tough to communicate with the staff, that don't speak any english, aside from one younger lady that wasn't really ever around. It was also sooo cold in your musky room at night, even though I was sleeping in my pants and sweater and socks, as well as adding 2 extra ponchos from the tv room to the bed. Security wise it was good, as well as location.

This was an outstanding hostel, but the staff was a problem. There was one man who was very helpful, but the other members of the staff would just leave when they wanted. This created a problem when people returned to the hostel and the other guests did not feel safe opening the door. It happened during the afternoon and early evening both days we were there. I´ve never been in a hostel where the staff left and the guests were expected to answer the door.
