One of the best hostel during 15 months in South America - stayed there also with parents. A lot of public space (incl. cozy garden), great kitchen, nice tv room. Good, very quiet and reasonably safe location. EXCELLENT staff - always helpful, smiling and has a solution for every request, You can comfortably stay until night (if leaving late) and use all the facilities. Very quiet and comfortable for guest of all age. Nice place to meet people. Very clean. Cannot think of any negative points...

I have just finished travelling all over South America and this was one of my favourite hostels! This place is bursting with character, its chilled out and the thing I loved most was the staff!!! I cant say thank you enough for everything they did for us!!! (sitting on the phone for 2 hours trying to book our flights, ordering us pizza quite often ooppsss!!) Also the most GORGEOUS, friendly dogs I have ever seen and an amazing kitchen! Thank you!!! x

I have traveled to over 40 countries and stayed in over 100 hostels. Alegria's ranks among the best. It is clean, beautiful, and the beds are very comfortable. Alegria herself is interesting and personable, a gracious hostess. The breakfast wasn't much (pastries only), but then again at this price it's surprising they offer anything at all. Highly recommended.

My experience was great because I met the owner who advised me with all the spectacular things that exist in Colombia and I have recommended this place to my friends. You have to come and do barbecues in the courtyard

Staff is great. Kitchen is nice. Bathrooms are ok. Not enough of them. Breakfast is just a croissant and coffee or tea. A much better value than the others around. Best part are two BIG dogs to scare away robbers!

Very charming and beautiful hostel. The owner was very sweet and helpful. A very cool place to stay in Bogota - small and homey not the biggest party hostel. Highly recommended

In entry area a lot of dog hair, 2 lovely dogs but that also sit on sofa and sometimes wonder into dorm at entry, some people might mind that, a bit cold in the evening to sit as the few tables ar in or open to the patio - bring a jacket, spacious kitchen, comfy beds, enough bathrooms, I didn't click with the female staff member but nothing negative to say, great location

Very good hostel. They don't like to book a double room, so they keep for you a dormitory. Good location, quite, helpfull, clean, and good breakfast. Don't be afraid with the dogs, they are very kind and good for security.

Twas good! If you want to stay in La Candelaria, it's a great option. I haven't been to any other hostels in the area, though. I would recommend.

1) paid the reservation fee, got there, no room for me!, offered me a bed in a quad, paid res for single, told that there had been a robbery, therefore, my room not available, scruffy evening night manager not even there when I arrived, had to wait 15-20 to talk to him 2) paid the reserve fee, no contact from them to return fee, 3) big dogs loafing in the reception, just too casual 4) overall dark, glad that they screwed up the reservation, would not stay there long term William E Brooks

I got the feeling that with low temperature it gets cold inside really quick... Maybe in winter they heat.

Nice hostel although pics are not true at all. Very good fresh juice for breakfast. Location is good to discover Candelaria but if you want to go out at night you should take hostel near Zona Rosa. Nice staff and lovely historic house.

Alegria's hostel had many great attributes. The staff were very friendly (despite knowing mostly no English). They had wifi and 2 computers to use for free at any time. They had a complimentary breakfast consisting of fruit and croissants. They had coffee and tea for free all day. Safe location, however further away from the sights of Bogota as compared to other hostels. Great tv room with couches, and a nice table in the back to have breakfast in the morning. Overall good value for your money.
