Hostelworld says:

We like the garden patio and roof terrace of Alfama Patio Hostel, which is where most of their activities are centred. One Hostelworld user said this is 'one of the best hostels to stay at during hot weather due to its amazing outside space'. They serve a Portuguese dinner nightly in the garden, made by 'friendly, welcoming, personable staff' who make the hostel 'a home away from home', according to our guests. Many Hostelworld visitors say they'd recommend this hostel to friends and lone travellers because 'after long days exploring the city it felt like coming home to a family'.

Property Information:

Experience a different way of staying in Lisbon at our recently-renovated hostel, the closest one to Lisbon Castle.

Experience the real Lisbon in the most characteristic district of Old Town, where Fado started and where random people sing in winding streets.

In Lisbon, within the four walls of our hostel, youll find a place with a global flavour, yet it still smells just like home. Could you ask for anything more?

Located in the most characteristic of Lisbons neighbourhoods, among winding streets and small cobbled squares, is Alfama Patio: a traditional house, where the living room and kitchen extend onto a grassy garden patio, with greenery climbing the walls and flowers spilling out over their pots. A few steps up, a deck terrace overlooks red-roofed buildings and the Tagus River, lying beneath Lisbon's trademark golden sunlight.

Our patio is the heart of the house which, undoubtedly, contributed to the hostels international Best Atmosphere award. This is where it all happens: a delicious pancake breakfast every morning, a BBQ and DJ on Saturdays, film night on Mondays and a Latin fiesta on Wednesdays. Its in this setting, at once upbeat and laid-back, that nationalities intermingle and friendships are made.

But to discover the city, you must venture out beyond the front gate. Our regular group outings lead you to some of the best of what Lisbon has to offer - a Brazilian music and dance party held locally on Tuesdays, an evening of live Portuguese Fado music on Thursdays and bar-hopping into the night in the Bairro Alto neighbourhood on Fridays.

Through we have activities every night, were not a party Hostel, and after 0.00h you can always continue the party in the local pubs nearby. :)

Some of Lisbons most popular monuments are barely past the Hostels doorstep, while others are just a ride away on one of the citys yellow electricos (riding in one of these trams is a must-do for any visitor anyway). And because theres a lot worth a seeing outside Lisbon proper, groups of five or more can hop in the hostels own van and be shuttled to nearby Cascais and Sintra or to one of several magnificent beaches close by.

If after all this youre still undecided, then it may help to know that Alfama Patio has won successive Best Staff awards. When you arrive and are welcomed with open arms, youll understand why.

We like to think that one of the reasons people like to stay here is the local experience of living in a little house in Lisbon's most genuine neighbourhood. The house itself is beautifully recovered and decorated with vintage items mostly bought on the flea market. Its location is perfect to experience the real Lisbon - its people, food, music and everyday life.
The party mood can be turned on every day, at any moment. The pub crawl and our world-famous BBQ (featuring the funniest DJ alive) are the highlights. But there are other ways to party, like taking the guitar and a bottle of wine to the rooftop to spend the night (or the day) enjoying the company and the moment.
There are many places I tell people to visit, but my personal favourite is Mesa de Frades - the best Fado in Lisbon! Great singers and musicians, red wine or white sangria and tasty tapas! The place is covered with beautiful tiles from the 18th century and, if you're lucky, you'll run in to some Fado celebrities that sneak in in the middle of the night to go back to their origins and offer us the best Fado experience there can be!
Lisbon makes us happy every day and our staff are quite professional about sharing that feeling with guests. We offer tours to Sintra, to the beach and to Fado in Alfama, and of course, free Wi-Fi, personal advice and pancakes for breakfast!

This was my fist time staying in a hostel and I had a fabulous time. The staff were extremely friendly, and the food was excellent. My travel companions also loved the hostel, and we have recommended it to all of our friends who are considering a trip to Lisbon!

Great views from the hostel. Good breakfast in the morning and dinner you can buy in the evening for cheap. Staff was very friendly and offered many activities. Rooms were decent but something about the way water runs through the pipes makes a squealing noise so wear earplugs to keep from being woken up whenever anyone flushes a toilet. You have access to their partner hostel facilities which was an awesome way to meet more people or to get off your feet when across the city.
