Amanpuri seems to cater largely for big overland tour groups, but I found that it suited me well as a single traveller. They are very good at what they do, and they don't try to do -everything-...which I think is wise. I didn't find the common areas particularly welcoming or conducive to socializing, but the place is clean, well-run, well-managed, excellent value, secure, with a great breakfast included and free wireless internet. Also very comfortable matresses and nicely furnished rooms.

More a cheap B&B than a backpackers hostel. The price was a little high for the dorm rooms, and the lack of a kitchen would be a drawback for those on the budget. That said, the place was very clean, the staff were excellent and a cooked breakfast was included, so you could see where your extra cash was going.
