After reading some of the reviews I was worried about stayin here but it's actually ok. Yep if you walk to blocks south you are in a really rough part of town but stay away and you are fine. I stayed on the 4th floor so didn't hear any street noise. I can see why it would be noisy further down the building. Only real complaint is the bunk beds. There's no ladders to climb to to the top bunk! You literally have to climb up the wall to get in the bed!

It is said in the website that there is a swimming pool: that is not true ! The commons areas are small and they are not very meeting friendly. Good deals with city activities. Facilities are ok but not that good.

Our stay was pretty average. The place could be cleaner and staff could be more friendly and helpful. The carpet and furniture is really old and felt dirty.

Love the hostel as it brought me new friends, and the facilities were really great, especially the in-house bathroom.

In my opinion the staff is to strickt with all the hostel rooms. e.g. I have never been kicked out at checkout time so stricktly, kitchen was never closed so tight at closing hours, etc...

Our stay was nice; however, the heater didn't work and the windows wouldn't stay closed, much less lock. It was pretty cold the first night. The staff fixed the heater the next day. The staff was nice, as were the other travelers. It was perfect for what we needed, a place to sleep.

Even if the location is good, the area around the hostel is not very safe.

WAS IN ROOM 2: stayed overnight - the hosel is very clean and pretty central. The bed was really confortable. Free pancake in the morning (DIY) does not taste very good - Can work for you if you want & teach you how to make way more tasty one :) Appart from that, all good - San Francisco is windy, grab a sweater

The breakfast is nice, but you have to cook your pancakes by yourself. So if there are 4-5 persons before you, you have to wait too much time. Anyway, this hostel is clean and the atmosphere is good. I spent a good time.

We had a problem with the light bulb in the bathroom going and it didn't get changed. There was a large amount of mould on the walls, so a re-paint might be a good idea. Also, the rooms were freezing.

The building is very old and water pipes made terrible noise every time someone downstars was taking show. People next door were loud during the night and staff did nothing about them. Our toilet had problem and they did not fix it; double bed is really narrow; musty smell inside the room. And they charge additional 15% tax.

Great Location! At Amsterdam Hostel there is a very nice and friendly atmosphere and it is easy to meet other travellers, especially at breakfast time while queuing for the pancakes! ;) Definitely recommended!

Great location, really safe. Walking distance to chinatown, piers and abny other attractions. Staff was fine. Hostel was clean (rooms) but externals as windows, fire staircase etc were probably never cleaned. Linen was fine. Kitchen was extremely dirty and smelly. Breakfast included: yes, but keep in mind that you only have pancakes you're doing on your own (from a huge bucket), coffe and maple syrup. Laundry area was a huge mess: also rarely cleaned. But price to value was great!!!

Probably the worst hostel I've stayed in in years. The filthiest and the noisiest, no doubt. People didn't even talk to each other, didn't bother cleaning up after them. Breakfast included meant waiting in line in a smoky kitchen and laddling out a disgusting dough into a pan seriously in need of being trashed. I do not recommend this place to anyone asking the bare minimum you expect in a hostel.
