I felt that Amsterdam hostel definitely has a lot to offer for its price. The location is perfect, staff is quite nice, and all the service provided are more than enough. The only slight issue I had was a very poor internet connection, but I guess that can be overlooked since I did not spend as much as money in there in first place.

A couple little things that could definitely be fixed, like a ridiculous "minimum $50" in order to pay with a credit card and running out of breakfast half an hour too early. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, but there were one or two exceptions (for example, one girl had zero knowledge about public transit in San Francisco). Other than that, a pretty typical hostel.

Everything's fine. Especially, a kitchen is good enough. Just one that, there's no signal on my mobile phone(T-mobile) inside the hostel. Good to stay.

it's a hostel and you will get a bed fresh duvet cover a towel and the possibility to take your food in the fridge and cook it whenever you want for 20$. don't expect any luxury stuff, the price and the location beats it all! negative though: the people who seem to be longterm guests are everywhere and make you feel uncomfortable. there "old" and always smoking weed, bothered me when I just wanted to relax. the other poeple I met were nice travelers though :)

Perfect!!! There's only one thing I didn't know was hotel was located almost top of steep:0 It was a bit tough to walk from Union st. with HEAVY backpack, but it's ok, it just make you a bit tired. You can sleep well. Thank you, and enjoy SF.

The staff on reception are not interested, simple as that.. Everything is an effort for them and they hardly show any interest in the place or customers.. Could be such a great hostel

CONS: (1) Strictly enforced 10:00 AM checkout. (2) If you don't book your entire dorm stay online and wish to extend, you will likely have to CHANGE ROOMS EVERY DAY OR 2 (the staff likes to shift travelers around to keep dorms full and other rooms vacant. This can get downright annoying constantly checking out and in.). (3) No help for the ladies with their luggage. PROS: (1) Clean, (2) working wifi, (3) cheap dorms, (4) central location, (5) pancake breakfast and coffee in the AM.

1. Stayed for 3 nights (a double bed) but no one had ever cleaned the room, not even taking out the trash. 2. The so-called breakfast is only pancake. Not to mention it takes forever to get one as everyone would be in the awkardly-shaped kitchen waiting for an available stove. 3. Barely any activities offered. 4. One of the hosts, who should be an immigrant himself, seems to discriminate people who are legal aliens and wouldn't take their valid US driver licenses. Should be enough for now.

Situation, price, general atmosphere was excellent, I had never slept so well in a hostel. Too bad there's not a bigger dining room, but nothing's perfect eh.

Very rude staff - they speak in extremely disrespectful way about the clients in our presence (!) when they think we can't understand them, specially a Spanish guy Javier who do that. He speaks rudely to the clients and then brags about it speaking with other staff so this way to trait guest seems to be more then acceptable for these people. It was very disagreeable experience, i will never come back and of course never will recommend it to anyone.

Not the best hostel. It's a very old building in San Francisco. We got a double room and it was freezing. The heater was a wall heater and sounded like a loud motor. The window from our room looked out onto old moldy mattresses. Location in SF was good, but environment was pretty gross. Also, if you don't cancel before 48 hours, you still have to pay. Very lame!!

New Years Eve here was a blast. The hostel provided us with bottles of champagne, the staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay here again if I come back to San Francisco.
