The kitchen was such a mess, there was a cat eating some raw chicken breast and nothing looked clean enough to use. The place is way up in the hill and given the city altitude it might take you an effort to walk back from the main square. When rain arrived we noticed a considerable leak coming from the dorm's roof, we had to move the beds in order to sleep dry.
We stayed during New Years and it was very welcoming and friendly. They have an old pool table and an open plan style balcony on opening onto a small grassy square. Very intimate place, the toilet and shower were open to the elements a bit- did have doors but not sealed off to the ceiling, at night when cold it was a little tricky. Breakfast was good use of kitchen too. Fine for travellers as it had great character but not for those seeking utmost comfort. Located up a steep hill but manageable!
Average value for money because it was cheap compared to other hostels and we had a private room with a bed and bathroom all to ourselves. However, the directions to the hostel are misleading. It is located two VERY LONG and VERY STEEP blocks away from the main square. Everytime we came back, we arrived panting profoundly. They haven't put much effort into making the hostel look nice. The worst experience was finding a booger on our bed duvée. The main lady at the front desk is very nice.
A positive overall experience. Just some problems with the hot water and the room was very cold.
Good value for money. I recommend. The place looks great, but don't expect everything to be in perfect shape as it´s an old house. The staff is very helpful. The downsides are minor, IMHO, but here they are: - if you are on the ground floor you can hear every single step from the room above. - It's a rather steep uphill walk to get there. - You can use the kitchen (big plus for me) but don't expect much from it.
The rooms are cold as a draft comes in through the door and window cracks. It also stank of paint as the bathroom must have had a fresh coat recently, as there was splash marks all over the bathroom and no shower curtain. The shower was hot though. Also we lost several items of laundry and I had to ask to check other people's piles to get them back (we still lost some undies though). Oh and it is up a giant hill so it is a pain to get home at night. Wifi good.
A really lovely hostel with nice rooms and friendly staff. It was at the top of a hill which we didn't realise from the map so it was a bit of a hassle to drag our bags up there in the morning but there was a great view from the top. Good amount of choice for breakfast and the staff tried everything to help when we were locked out of our room (they even brought a saw out for the lock, but we told them we'd just wait till the others returned). Overall great stay.
