Great hostel. Main entrance is buzzed open at desk only + there's a security guy always hanging around. LOCKERS ARE IN THE ROOMS except for the tents which have lockers elsewhere (some reviews said they didn't exist; they are flat out wrong). Staff are friendly for the most part; seem a little disinterested in the guests. Atmosphere is great; lots of cards, drinks, and meeting new people in the common space. Pretty clean throughout. No kitchen, but the "restaurant" food is great. Solid hostel.

The nicest hostel I stayed at while backpacking through Costa Rica

Purchased a tent for two people, ended up having to pay more even though the website says for 1-2 people, you only need to pay $16 a night. Very misleading. Other than that, the stay at Arenal Backpackers was enjoyable.

the private rooms here are really nice. you will feel like youre in a hotel. also, the pool looked really nice. unfortunately the weather didnt permit us to swim comfortably. this hostel has less of a communal feel than others. we sat in the bar area for a while and did not witness or partake in communicating with other travelers. it kind of feels more like a hotel. if youre trying to make friends, this isnt the place. but the rooms are nice!

The hostel had a really cool vibe about it and it was easy to make friends and to find people to hang out with, which was great as a solo traveler. Both nights that I was there, a lot of people just enjoyed everyone's company. The restaurant food was also really good.

best hostel

A good hostel, but wasn't quite what we were after. It feels like it is n 18-30 hotel, though without the heavy partying side to it. What we would have preferred is a hostel with a kitchen where we could cook our own food. The kitchen there only serves food from the menu. This makes it more expensive as you have to eat out each evening of have cold food like sandwiches We stayed in the tent option. The zips were largely broken so took a bit of playing with each time we "locked" the tent.

Small room with bad beds:(

Overall it was a great place to stay. The room was clean enough, the shared bathrooms were extremely clean. The common area was a very comfortable place to hang out with comfortable couches, strong wi-fi and a little place to get food and drinks (definitely expensive, but very convenient and very good). The only negative was that i booked a room and several days later they said that type was overbooked and not available, so to still get a private room i had to upgrade, but would stay here again.

nice clean hostel. Private rooms totally worth the extra coin. Lots of outlets. Cleaning staff always on the go. No kitchen but the food was really good at the bar. Pool was clean and the grounds very decent. The entire grounds are fenced with buzz in to gain access after hours and all night security guard. Close to all the shops and eateries. I'd recommend it again

A bit expensive indeed.

Very noisy at night..... Definitely a party backpackers...on the nigh to was there anyway! My private room was on the ground floor near the bar, so not the best location, however it was spotlessly clean and a very comfortable bed!

Pros: *The pool was nice; most hostels don't offer a pool as an amenity *Food was quick and cheap *In the heart of La Fortuna - easy walk to restaurants and shops Cons: *Our room was incredibly musty *We didn't have hot (even warm) water the entire time we were there *The majority of the staff was not great (vague responses, attitudes, not helpful) *Sheets were thin and stained *We were only provided one towel for two people in a private room

La fortuna is beautiful and the backpackers resort really added to our visit nicely. It is on the edge of town but not isolated and the common area is an excellent and inviting spot to meet fellow guests. We booked a number of tours and transportation through the front desk and never had a problem.

Slacklines, trampoline, several restrooms, hot showers, daily lounge activities, friendly atmosphere, great pool, good music. You'd be Backwards not to stay here

Nice sociable hostel, close to town and tours available if you can't be bothered to do them independently. If you're going to Nicaragua from here, note that you do not need an expensive taxi to get to the bus stop as the hostel says - the super cheap local bus gets you there in ample time!

Its an amazing hostel to stay.. Best value for money I have ever experienced, so clean, just great! Will recommend it to everyone who travels to la fortuna ;)

Very nice hostel, they should include breakfast in the rate though, at least for private rooms.

Great location with an epic pool surrounded by palm trees. Food and drinks at the bar/restaurant were really pricey, had to go in town for cheap breakfast. Overall vibe was great in the common areas.
