The private rooms are not the level advertized. We paid 100 dollars for a room in San Jose Radisson with buffet breakfast for two. Here the cost was almost the same around 80 ! Overpriced!

Amazing hostel. Great washrooms. The staff are so cool and hot. The shower was better than in Canada.

We were going to be arriving late, so I informed hostel world of our ETA. They said they would let the hostel know. But when we got there, the hostel had already given away our room. It took them forever to figure out what had happened, but they had a back up that had one fewer bed than we requested. We were exhausted and took the room, but that was all there was to it. I think the manager should have offered us a discount or free drinks or something to make up for their mistake.

The place is amazing and the staff really kind. The only thing was that was no breakfast included and no kitchen to cook or prepare our own food.

It's definitely a party hostel, but the facilities are top notch.

This is probably the nicest hostel we've ever been to. It was cleaned daily and meticulously. The staff was amazing and booked our tours and transfers for us right from the hostel, recommended restaurants to eat at in town and things to do around La Fortuna. We loved Rodney and Alex (front desk guys) they were super friendly and helpful. The restaurant had good food, restaurant girls always friendly. Only suggestion would be shelving units in private rooms, and hooks in showers to hang clothes.

It's a very nice hostel, but there's no kitchen or refrigerator. The ability to cook for myself is one of several reasons I stay in hostels, so that was a disappointment here. And, true to many of the reviews I have read of this hostel, we did encounter an arrogantly rude young man working the front desk at check in.

The reservation couldn't be found by the hostel. Anyway, they were very helpful by helping us and were enthousiast to do so.

Great place to stay and not to far from town.

Nice atmosphere with the pool and place ouside the bar. easy to meet others, but also to just read a book. Not to much party, but at the same time good vibes. To bad there is no kitchen, so that makes it a bit expensive. Room and bed was ok.

I would describe more as a hotel than a hostel. Amazing facilities, had a large pool, gym area, restaurant and central lounge area. Food from restaurant very high quality. No kitchen. Lacked a bit of the traditional hostel atmosphere. staff had good advise us on tours and booked for us, but had little advice for activities we could do independently like cerro chato. Very expensive for a hostel, but perhaps that's due to La Fortunas popularity with tourists.

Great place to stay in La Fortuna. We had a private room away from the main area and it was nice. Staff were helpful and polite. Really cool hang out areas around the pool and main lobby if you want to make the most of it and meet people.

The facilities are really good! I really liked the camp style. The pool is big and the common areas nice to spend your free time!

Great hostel overall but breakfast not being included makes it a bit overpriced. They do serve a really good breakfast but it's about $10 pp depending on what you get. The pool and the common area are great to chill out at and they have drink specials most days. A lot of guests hang out there during the day and at night. Cooler or mini-fridge in the room and breakfast could have made it great but was still good.

My sister and I had a great stay at Arenal Backpackers. It rained non-stop and we knew our stuff would never get dry so we used the laundry service. It cost $9 for half a garbage bag and our clothes came back no problem. The location is excellent. We reserved all our tours from vendors on the street because they were cheaper than the hostel and had no issues, just know what the hostel is charging and make sure you get it for less! Don't do the 2 volcanoes, 1 day 10 hour tour, it was awful!

Great hostel. Main entrance is buzzed open at desk only + there's a security guy always hanging around. LOCKERS ARE IN THE ROOMS except for the tents which have lockers elsewhere (some reviews said they didn't exist; they are flat out wrong). Staff are friendly for the most part; seem a little disinterested in the guests. Atmosphere is great; lots of cards, drinks, and meeting new people in the common space. Pretty clean throughout. No kitchen, but the "restaurant" food is great. Solid hostel.

The nicest hostel I stayed at while backpacking through Costa Rica

Purchased a tent for two people, ended up having to pay more even though the website says for 1-2 people, you only need to pay $16 a night. Very misleading. Other than that, the stay at Arenal Backpackers was enjoyable.

the private rooms here are really nice. you will feel like youre in a hotel. also, the pool looked really nice. unfortunately the weather didnt permit us to swim comfortably. this hostel has less of a communal feel than others. we sat in the bar area for a while and did not witness or partake in communicating with other travelers. it kind of feels more like a hotel. if youre trying to make friends, this isnt the place. but the rooms are nice!

The hostel had a really cool vibe about it and it was easy to make friends and to find people to hang out with, which was great as a solo traveler. Both nights that I was there, a lot of people just enjoyed everyone's company. The restaurant food was also really good.
