Great little private room, but gets really cold at night because they turn off the heat. Remember to ask for an extra blanket and if you do try to get it on the spot, as they are forgetful and then you'll go to bed freezing.

Great for those wanting something quiet in the big city without all the crowds and crazy parties. This is one of the best backpackers I've ever stayed at! Very cozy and quiet on the other side of the park. Lovely atmosphere because it's a converted house, so it just feels like you're staying in a friends place. Nice lounge area with comfy couches and board games, and 2 cute little kitchens! Very friendly staff too. We felt right at home :)

A member of the staff complained, in quite a rude way, that me and my friends were doing too much noise during the night. We had left the hostel at 11pm. This would seem a little too much on a normal evening, but I could understand. The infuriating thing about it is that it was the New Year's Eve and there was no soul in the hostel but us! It's not a fun hostel, but the facilities are great. I guess it's suited for those wanting a chill out time - but certainly not for those after parties.

This hostel has two fully stocked kitchens that are open 24-hours with one having a TV and lounge area. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and will answer any question to the best of their ability. The hostel, even on New Years Eve was pretty quiet. And the in-room electronic safes make security no hassle.

This was my third time to stay at the Argyle Backpackers Hostel within a single year. Each time I stay there, the better the hostel appears to be getting. Although it is a 10 minute walk from the High Mile/ City Centre, the location is excellent because the walk is directly through the attractive Meadows park. The hostel is across the street from some great shops (one of the best fair trade grocers in the UK) Hajis to take advantage of the hostels excellent kitchen facilities.

I love this hostel. This was my first trip to Edinburg, and the hostel is helping to build a good impression of this city. The location is fabulous, just opposite to a large park, and it only takes 20 minutes walk to get to the city centre. Rooms are clean and about four rooms to share one bathroom and one toilet. But the heating seems not working in the room I lived, so its cold at night..

Definitely a great place, as long as you don't mind staying slightly outside the center of town. (The neighborhood is very interesting though and certainly not 'suburban'!) The hostel's character is very nice, the rooms are spectacular and cosy, plenty of common space is offered, and the bathrooms are spacious and clean.

It's great to have the opportunity to use the kitchen in this hostel and to have free tea and coffee whenever you like.
