Great Hostel for a short term stay

The room we stopped in was very small which is fine for a couple of backpackers but we were travelling around the world and had suitcases. There is no storage space and virtually no hanging space so you cannot unpack and have to keep everything in the case but the room is so small the case has to be closed up and stuck in a corner so as not to get in the way. Not smoker friendly, thin walls, you can hear your neighbours talk, noisy air con. Overall it is a nice place to stay and we did enjoy it.

The Arnott was what we expected and was perfectly sufficient. Nothing fancy but adequate.

Even though our stay was short, we really enjoyed it. The room was very clean. We plan to visit again and stay longer next time. I really liked the Shower gel that was provided and the added touches such as macadamias on the beds. The beds were comfortable also. I like that they have washer and dryers. It was really quiet and peaceful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They provided a lot of information for tourists. The grounds were very well-kept.

Rating is for the dorm, which is basically an extension of the kitchen separated by only a curtain. Good luck trying to sleep in past all the older folks cooking in the morning. Also didn't see anyone past the first day, so the hostel atmosphere wasn't exactly great, it felt like a motel. Bathrooms are everything are kept really clean, which is great, but doesn't justify the cost. I'd only stay here again if I was saving money in a tent or if I had tours booked with them.

The 'dorm room' here is simply an open room in the general camp house next to the kitchen of this camp ground facility. There is no where to lock valuables and people are in the kitchen from the early morning which wakes you up. As there is no door on this room, people are constantly walking through to get to the other dorm rooms and bathroom and kitchen. It was ok for one night but quite far from down town hilo as well.
