I had booked a female dorm, and was given a bed when I arrived which i made up with the linen provided. I then went out for the evening with friends. When I came back at one I was told I'd been given the wrong bed, and made to strip it and move it and all my stuff (quite hard in teh dark with people sleeping) and had to move to another bed, which was in a mixed dorm. I found this extremely annoying.

First the wi-fi was broken but they told us to go to their bar across the street but their wi-fi were also broken. We paid for a room with shower but the hot water was broken, they have shower on the floor but the light on the floor and in the shower was broken. The toilet door is broken, our doorlock was really hard to close safely. You can leave your luggage in the luggage room but the door was broke so they can close the door and anybody can go in. You got a pool table, but really scrap.

I'll never forget our stay at Art Roch Hostel. It is situated right on Grassmarket and we had a view of the Castle from our room. When the right staff members were present things got done. But ... this hostel is incredibly dirty, things are broken ... beds, walls, showers, toilets, kitchen facilities etc. It is a hostel with a great potential as the building is very interesting and location brilliant. I hope the owners take a few weeks to clean and fix up the place.

We did not enjoy this hostel at all! I slept in my clothes with no cover and froze to death because the duvet was disgusting, we were also scared to sleep in the top bunk as they were extremely rickety and one had fallen onto the lower one. There was no hot water in the kitchen and the shower doors are see through. Their wifi and credit card machine weren't working which sucked. Most of the staff were always outside smoking but were nice enough. I loved Edinburgh bug not this hostel!

The location is just perfect! The staff friendly but really unprofessional, the credit card machine was broke all 4 days, they didn\'t have exchange money, one of the beds broke the first time one from the group tried to go in to it, the window couldn\'t be closed the first night, there were only hot water for 5 people, the electricity in the kitchen were broke so you had to ask in the reception before the oven worked.. So nice if you JUST want a place to sleep but very poor and unprofessional..

Some repair work is in order in the kitchen: only two hobs were working (out of 16!) with people having to queue to cook their food. Same for toasters. One shower room didn't have hot water, the other no lighting (no late showers, then!)General cleanliness good. Friendly and helpful staff.

This hostel is the worst I ever seen. Completly dirty and with no kitchen and free space, aprt from a small sitting room. But the worst thing is its security. Robberies are common and from the telling also of others travellers is not strange that somebody can go into your rooms and steal you whatever want. The staff is also very unpolite. Remember to not book this hostel for any reasons!!!

I loved this hostel. A little but grungy but very clean and spacious. The place is huge with a maze of corridors and stairs. The only downer was that the wifi was out for 3 days for my stay.

The staff was rather nice, and the dormitories, clean. However, the kitchen/lounge area was filthy. The room itself is huge and beautifully decorated, but the kitchen was extremely dirty, there was almost no cutlery, the toaster didn't work, there were no mugs, no hot water coming out of the tap, and there wasn't always dishwashing liquid. I enjoyed the decoration, but I was happy to only have to spend one night there. Go to High Street Hostel instead.

You get what you pay for. This hostel was really cheap and had a good location, but it was also one of the worst hostel experiences I've ever had. Not all of the showers had hot water--so I had a pretty cold shower on my first day in Edinburgh. The kitchen/lounge was kind of a disaster--vodka bottles and beer cans lying everywhere from the night before. For two of the days I was there, there was no soap in the kitchen to wash dishes.

Art Roch hostel has a very good location in Edinburgh. The problem I had being in it was that the hot water as well as the heat sistem often drop out and we freezed at nights and couldn\'t take showers sometimes. Besides all, the lobby was often crowded with people sleeping at the coaches and the clean wasn\'t always the best. And no breakfast at all! So....I\'d try another chance if you decide to visit the beautiful Edinburgh.
